Aquatic Wonderland: A Must-Visit Family Destination with Captivating Marine Life
Perfect for family visits. One of the best aquariums for marine animals I have ever been to. Plenty of food stalls and seats if you need to revive. The souvenir shop offers good quality and unique items. Unfortunately the cafe within the aquarium was full which I anticipated long time ago. It was a pleasant experience overall and I’d recommend to friends especially families with children.

    Amazing huge complex
This is an amazing complex. Located on the former Expo 75 lands, this is a huge 4-level aquarium. There are three major exhibits inside this complex. Kuroshio, Coral Sea, and the Shark Research Lab. The tank is so big, and the whale shark is so huge, that it is overwhelming and awe-inspiring. The admission fee is ¥2,180 however there are many places you can get a discount. On the same property, there are 4 other FREE pools. No admission is needed. The dolphin show is currently at the Dolphin Theater (Okichan Theater is currently being remodeled), the Manatee Pool, and the Sea Turtle Pool. This is a must-visit if you are in Okinawa.

Go in the afternoon for lesser crowd
The whole aquarium building is very large but actually there aren’t that many exhibits. If you wish to do something else, my suggestion is to go about 2 hours before closing time - it was so empty at 4pm. You skip all the bus loads of tourists and families, and still see the same thing. But do take note of the last entry timing. It doesn’t take more than 1.5 hours to cover. The dolphin shows were always crowded no matter which timing so if you want to sit you have to go early.

    Go visit it!!!!!!
This place is BIG and the main aquarium has a GIANT shark and enormous manta rays. Fishes way bigger than Osaka’s aquarium, for example. Shop is varied (I could count at least 10 t shirt designs, the amount of plushies is great). There are lots of options for breakfast and lunch here. It takes a whole morning/begining of an afternoon to visit it. Don’t follow google maps recommendations to use local buses, trust me: they are expensive and you definetly won’t feel confortable with the idea of looking for a badly signed bus stop in the middle of a hilltop road. I’d recomend to get an airport shuffle bus - the price might sound expensive but it is fixed. Going back to my hotel I got a local bus and the ticket fare changes along the distance run by the bus. If it’s your first time in Okinawa, go visit it! But keep in mind that it is VERY far away from downtown. It’s a place where I wouldn’t like risking to miss the bus back to my hotel.

    Great with kids
We loved our visit here. It’s not a big aquarium but the coral reefs and the whale shark were a sight to see. The queue was quick enough and the surrounding area is lovely with a playground for little kids.

Just go…that’s all I have to say!
When my daughter found out Okinawa was a stop on our Japanese vacation she said we had to visit here. It was amazing. Not just the beautiful tropical fish, but the giant central tank that housed the manta rays, sharks and the 30’ whale shark. We could have stayed all day.

Plan ahead, great day out with family !
We had a great day at the aquarium, here is a suggested itin. Book tickets for dolphin feeding online and get QR quote, visit on a weekday if possible but it was still packed on Monday when we visited. Get there early and park at P7 (closest) , we parked at P9 still ok but 10min walk to aquarium ok if you want to see manatees and turtles first. Watched dolphin show at 12noon then lined up at feeding booth to redeem for the fish bait at end of show. Then went indoor and watched coral reef feeding at 2pm, really worth it. The third/ last window has the best view at feeding time. Then go to ocean blue cafe (next to the whale shark tank) and sign up for a window side table. In busy day we waited for an hour for a table. At 3pm feeding time for the whale shark while we had afternoon tea, food average but great view priceless, booking fee 500 yen for window table and max 40minutes limit. Spend the rest of the day at the nice shark exhibits and shops (packed), the beach outside was really nice. If in a rush then can finish everything in an hour - slipping meals and feeding time.

    Nice program
We came here from Yaedake Sakuranomori Park at the end of January 2024. We paid Y 3,300 for 2 adults and a kid. The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium was located in a huge area. We did not like the dolphin show. It was very disappointing but the rest of the place was very interesting.

Good day out, watch the weather.
Well worth a visit just to see a whale shark. It's an good value day of about 60aud. Take the bus 888 from naha prefectural office Don't use the airport bus line. Takes about 2.5 hours, spend about 3 hours at the aquarium, then bus back.

I have heard many great reviews of this aquarium, so I decided to check it out. Due to my schedule, I did not have time to check everything out (so I recommend you to plan to spend minimum 2 hours or longer if you want a full experience), but I managed to make it to 17:00 feeding time for whale sharks and rays. I had never seen them being fed, so it was very interesting to observe their behaviours. The aquarium looked updated and clean. I wish I had more time, so I can check everything they offer.

It's a popular aquarium that has now become one of the regular spot for Okinawan travelers.
It exhibits mainly tropical and subtropical saltwater fish and marine life, mainly from the waters around Okinawa, and some deep-sea fish are also exhibited. Research on marine life is also active, and while the aquarium mainly exhibits marine life, there is a separate building (Churaumi Plaza) where visitors can learn about skeletons and other specimens, as well as ecology and reproduction.
The whale shark swimming in a huge tank is particularly striking. On weekends and holidays, many families come to the park to take pictures. If you want to take photos of the whale shark (with you) with more time to spare, weekdays, especially in the morning, are recommended as they are relatively empty. There are also theme-based exhibits (e.g., poisonous creatures, light-emitting creatures, etc.) that are designed to arouse curiosity.
The building itself is also unique, making this aquarium a hot spot for architecture lovers. The dolphin show, sea turtle exhibit, and manatee exhibit are free of charge.

The establishment is built on the site of the Okinawa Expo and it overlook beautiful ocean. It has extensive and fun exhibition, and its largest water tank is the second largest in the world giving impressive picture of the ocean of Okinawa with so many different species. Outside of the aquarium, there are regular shows of dolphins and sea turtle tanks, and you can feed them at a fee. Great and refreshing experience and highly recommended. There is a huge parking but still it gets crowded after a few hours, so it is recommended to go early and fully enjoy the establishment.

One of the must visit place for tourist in Okinawa. A favourite and kids and adult alike. It is a huge site, so if you can afford the time, it is best if you could spend half a day if not a whole day here.

It has so many shows such as dolphins shows, so remember to check the schedule.

You can come here by yourself or join one of the local bus tour. The o my Dow side is that the bus tour only stopped at the aquarium for 3 hours. It might not be enough.

It is has one of the biggest water tanks in the world. It has whale sharks and manta rays inside.

Pro Tip:
You can get an amazing view of the ocean and the okinawan seashore so remember to go to the observation deck and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

We visited the aquarium and were very disappointed on the habitat the aquarium management has developed. More money has been spent on the events building rather than on the living areas for the marine life. No plants , no rocks! Absolutely nothing dedicated to their living environment. Really sad! The turtles and manatees were living in bare tanks without any stimulation some of these poor animals have been locked up in these tanks as specimens for years. Absolutely no mention of environmental programs or protection of species. The aquarium could learn a lot from Singapore which has dedicated a lot of information on how the animals are threatened and what can be done. Shameful approach by a Buddhist society.

After a 2.5 hour drive from Chatan/Kadena for 70km (~12:30/15h) because of a lot of traffic, we didn’t take the toll road, we finally arrived at the well organized parking lot. After paying 1880¥ we proceeded to the exhibit. I’m not a sea creature expert and I did hear about criticism about the small sizes of tanks. We didn’t see any animals in distress, everything was super clean and we got to see the feeding. I understand these creatures are to be free in the ocean but we’re thankful having gotten to see these fascinating animals so close.

was very heavy rain but a few people were still arriving in the morning. if you live local but a season pass, much better and some discounts are offered with it.
