Nakagusuku Castle is visible evidence of the Ryukyu kingdom and is a perfect reflection of that period of time in Okinawa’s history. The natural rocks and the land surrounding the castle are in perfect harmony with the curving walls, this amazing feat allows us to appreciate the masonry skills of this ancient time.

The ruin itself is attractice to explore. It is worth for visit. I really enjoy taking photos so much. And it quite takes time if you like to take photos.

I quite liked these ruins - somehow felt a little more authentic than Shuri castle which has been almost fully reconstructed. Nakagusuku isn't in such good condition (as it hasn't had the benefit of such extensive reconstruction) but it has great views out over both...More

It's mostly stone walls but the basic plant of the castle is still conserved. With its 150 mt above sea level height, the castle is a great spot for a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

There are 5 UNESCO World Heritage castle ruins in Okinawa – Shuri, Nakagusuku, Katsuren, Zakimi and Nakijin. My family and I were at Naha and had about 4 hours to spare at one castle ruin before we head to the airport. There are two castle...More

I would say ruins aren't my thing, but I visited and could imagine how life was to some extent. This isn't as well annotated along the way as Katsuren, so I am glad I was there first to understand life in these castles and the...More

This is a gusk(castle)located in the middle part of Okinawa. You can see the stone walls piled up in 3 ways.First is Nozura-tsumi,most primitive method is just piled up stones without process. Second is Nuno-tsumi, third is Aikata-tsumi, both used the stones with having processed....More

The history and path are a little tough to follow--it is best to go past the ticket entry and along a wide path until you reach the front entranceway. There isn't a great method of working your way through the ruins--some areas have been blocked...More

My favorite castle on island by far. The views are spectacular. It is a lot of uphill walking and stair climbing but well worth it. This castle is also located right in front of the ever so popular rumored haunted hotel. Mind you, you can...More

The terrain where the castle was built is very interesting. Because a standing cliff is natural harm, you may know that it was worked well as a defense facility. You can observe the topography where the castle was built from the top. The...More

I went with our family on a very warm, summer afternoon. The employees were very kind. They didn't speak English but were prepared for English speakers with brochures and gestures. The parking lot is at the base of a hill. After a short walk, there...More

May I suggest you look into a page called U Ride on facebook. Taxis can be expensive. As mentioned in another comment you can also get an international drivers license and rent a car so that you can travel more freely.
