This is a very beautiful place, and you must go and see it, regardless of your fitness level, you will find a walk to suit. We intended to do the longest trek, 2 and 1/2 hours, which we would have handled quite well within that...More

We went on the 80 minute trek. There are various courses of 30 minutes, 50 minutes, 80 minutes, and 150 minutes. The shorter two involve walking on either stone paths or wooden walk ways. The longer two involve walking over tree roots and some muddy...More

I'd definitely recommend coming here if only for the beautiful drive up to it. Stunning doesn't really begin to describe the view from the road out off the side of the island. The paths in the forest are well maintained and pretty easy to get...More

Take a good pair of choose, some food and try this part. It's one of the best thing I've done in Japan. The old tree is just amazing

If you are looking at walking on proper trails or boards while being in the cedar forests, then this is for you! I would recommend that you go there in the morning so that you can see the pretty morning dew on the ferns. It...More

Yakushima is a beautiful island where nature is left (more or less) untouched. Yes, untouched, but in a Japanese sense of the word. The ancient Sugi trees used to be logged, but that has stopped and some of the true giants have been left standing....More

This is the shortest hike out of the big three (Shiratani Unsuikyo, Jomon Sugi), even for the long course (about two hours). It's an easy hike, with some very nice scenery and a lot of old, impressive trees. Tip: take the morning bus all the...More
