Wonderfully rugged west coast beach, black sand, lots to explore, plenty of driftwood, great place to watch the sunset. Good waves, great for families, 10 minutes drive from Hawera.

Very simple beach area and good for surf and boogie boarding when tide is about an hour away from high tide. A bit rocky. River hole is nice for kids. Ohawe seems to have a nice friendly community and the local historic monument is worth a look at for histories sake. Picturesque area

Quintessential west coast beach: high & steep cliffs, rocky, black sand, big waves. Makes for a awesome walk though, and amazing sunsets in the evening. There sometimes is actually really good swimming & surfing, just straight off the boat ramp. the water looks a bit dirty but it's just the sand being stirred up

Spent four nights here in November. Manager Phoebe was the perfect manager. Obliging and relaxed with buckets of personality. Camp facilities were clean and quirky. Will definitely go back one day.

So worth going to this beach. Very windy so be prepared. But the walk at low tide is so worthwhile. It is such a beautiful beach with such amazing views. A true and valuable expression of a visit to Taranaki. We took a light meal and a take away coffee down with us and sat in the car and watched... More

A west coast beach that is not very developed, you can walk along the beach when the tide is out. There is a river that children seem to enjoy and spots that are good for a barbecue. A small private campground is in a sheltered area just below the village.

A wonderful wild beach. Bring some time to look at the driftwood, cones and soak up the black beach atsmophere.

This is a pretty cool spot. It's a bit out of the way. Fairly cool beach, plenty of history around it too. It can get a little bit windy. So maybe hold onto your hats.
