Beautiful views and worth the effort to get there

The scramble up the rocks was actually lots of fun but very difficult for young children and dogs. The views are stunning!

Amazing Views, Worth the effort
Aug. 2020
Tough hike to reach the top (lookout point), but well worth the views.

The Crack - hike starts off easy, then climbing the rocks gets tougher and the final section reaching the crack needs bit more effort. Its easily doable, just need sturdy shoes (preferably hiking shoes) and ensuring good balance when climbing rocks.

Took us 3 hours for full round trip - getting to lookout 1:30 hr (40 mins was for the last section of rocks), 30 mins for enjoying the views and then 50 mins on the return.

Worth trying as the views are beautiful and would be especially during fall.

Another trail - right across from the Crack is the Granite Ridge Trail - easier, with great views, good during sunset

Granite Ridge trail - 1 hr for round trip - good for sunset views and has 2 lookout spots.

Amazing view at top

One of the best hike! I would not recommend that you attempt this hike if you have any mobility issues or you are not generally fit. The climb at the end is very difficult. But the view is absolutely worth it! The day we did this hike it was very hot. Make sure you bring plenty of water on a hot day. I plan to do this one again.

Excellent views

We were recently in Killarney and hiked the Crack with our 8 year old. The sign stated that the average time was 4 hours. We made it up to the Crack and back in 2 hours and 20 minutes. The views were spectacular.

Tough but SO worth it!
Jul. 2020
We hiked this on a hot sunny day. We definitely did not have enough water with us!! It was a challenging trek but SO worth it for the spectacular view at the top! We debated whether or not to take our 9 year old Samoyed but he did okay (we have a backpack that he wears that we can lift him with when needed). We should have taken more water for him for sure.

Don’t miss this one! Be there early, and hike on a weekday if at all possible, as the parking lot really fills up! On the Saturday of the Civic weekend when we were heading home we saw cars parked out to and all over the road! We were so happy we had gone earlier in the week!

Epic trail! Go early to avoid the crowd
Aug. 2020
We have heard it was very hard, and ended up not so hard as we thought. It is relative short (8.74km out and back), some steep areas and only one more technical part that you need to use your hands to help you move up through the crack. We met families with kids doing it easily too.

Challenging hike with stunning views
Jul. 2020
This hike was a bit of a challenge, but absolutely worth the views at the top. The trail is clearly marked and while the large boulders towards the end were initially intimidating, they were very manageable. We got an early start and took our time (about 3.5h with a lunch break at the top). Sturdy shoes and lots of water are definitely needed.

Worth the effort!

If you are an intermediate hiker, a runner or someone that does not have issues with knees, feet or legs in general, you have to do The Crack. It is challenging but so worth it! Take your time, enjoy the scenery and don't panic when you see the wall of rocks and boulders in front of you, it is easier than it looks, I found it harder to go down. Plan ahead, wear good hiking shoes and take a pair of gloves with grip to aid you in the climb. Somebody got a bad cut in his hand from the sharp quartzite.

iconic view from the top
Jul. 2019
the Crack starts out fairly average - a groomed flat trail - winds past a couple of bodies of water and then starts to ascend. Hiking shoes strongly recommended. The last part of the hike is over huge boulders the size of cars, though the 'crack' and finally to the most amazing view. the whole hike took my two teenagers and i 3.5 hours (round trip). we aren't super athletes - just take your time, enjoy the hike and be sure to take lots of pictures!
