t.The entry fee did seem a bit steep but included a talk on the fascinating history of the compound and its small community, and then a look inside the lighthouse itself with an explanation of how it works. Both guide and lighthouse operator spoke with great passion and clearly love their jobs. There are other bits and pieces to explore... More

Not only is his the lighthouse but also historic buildings including the telegraph masters house with relics from yore and family photos of local folk. It's easy to see how the conditions here must have been very treacherous at times and isolating too. A lesson in so much history from the lighthouse to first radar in australia and telegraph history.... More

After taking a winding drive through the cape, I arrived at 4:40 hoping to, at least, walk out to the lighthouse.. Not an option.. Last entry was 4:30.. There is a 750m hike up and around that you can see the lighthouse from a distance, so I did that. At least, there is an option to see it as you... More

Thanks for your review. We do have a sign at the main turn off that states last entry is 4.30pm. I'm glad you did the walk and enjoyed the coast More

Great view from the top of the lighthouse, Lucky enough to chat with the light house keeper, learned some history, equipment in lighthouse and daily life of the light house keeper. The light house keeper cafe is a nice dinning place, nice view. It would be good if the entree fee would be half price. :)Plus, very big wind, be... More

Thanks for your great reivew. We'd love to be cheaper too but then we wouldn't be able to staff the lighthouse or look after it as we do! ;) More

Cape Otway Lighthouse is a really interesting place to visit. The road in could do with some maintenance but take it easy and you will be ok. The light house was an important piece of the 1800's travel puzzle. It was not only a lighthouse, but a telegraph station and in WW2 a radar station. You can get a coffee... More

Travel back in time to life before technology, to a time when people laboured under very difficult conditions to get their job done. Makes you appreciate the hazards of sea travel along this particular stretch of oceans and how critical the role of the light house was.

This is an interesting site on Cape Otway, just outside the National Park. The buildings and their histories describe their roles in the development of navigation and communications. The main feature is the lighthouse, where we met an excellent guide who gave an imaginative and well informed description of the history of the light and its importance to the shipping... More

What a wonderful place to visit, make sure you see it all, and visit Dale in the aboriginal hut, he is an absolute delight, his knowledge is amazing, with his passion for our heritage enthralling. We stayed the night in the studio apartment, it was like stepping back to another era, except we did it in a beautifull recently renovated... More

Great views from top of the lightstation. But the entry tickets are on a higher side. We paid 46 for a family with 1 child and 1 toddler. Can spend not more than an hour.

This was a nice stop. The place was very historic and lot to learn. It was neat to go into the lighthouse and learn the history. Glad we went.
