Not an easy hike by any means. Me and my partner have average fitness (he works retail and I work a desk job - to give some perspective) and found the trek up very challenging. There's steps the whole way up, with some being big steps and some being small steps. Took us about 3 hours to get up there and 2 to get back down. We were in no rush and stopped quite a number of times to take breaks on the way up. My number one tip would be BRING HIKING POLES or a good walking stick. It helps to boost yourself up the bigger steps and you can use it on the way down to take some of the weight off your knees.
Wear good walking shoes (we wore Merrell's and they were fantastic) and bring plenty of water. Also bring lots of layers, we were very hot and sweaty going up but once you get past a certain height it's suddenly freezing - we were glad we brought gloves, balaclavas and jackets.
We did the hike mid October and set off up the mountain at 2.30am to be up there for a 5.30 sunrise. The view at the top was absolutely beautiful! It's definitely great achievement when you reach the top.

Nice walking track up to some decent views. There is not a massive amount to see from there; land is very flat and boring in West Oz. But as with any high point, its a nice perspective.
The climb up is fairly steep - lots of steps fitted into the rocks, so its more like a stair climb tbh, altho' not a very even, regular set of stairs.
I'd allow 3 hours up (with a break of say 30 mins at the top) and an hour and a half back down. That's not trying to be an iron man or woman, and allowing for a few breathers on the way up.
Take water and a snack for the top. You will work out on this, so go early if the heat affects you.
The cafe on the road in is now closed (permanently) so you can't coffee up prior to departure.
Public toilets down at the base were disgusting - really. Avoid!

Such a rewarding hike! 2 couples, 30s and mid 40s/50s. We all hadn't done something like this before. But we managed to do it 1.5hr up and 1hr 20 down. All you need is a light backpack with 2L water, tissues, and snacks. It was hard and challenging...needed plenty of quick stops to catch our breathes and balance. But was soooo worth it. Would do it again.

Had a great time doing this trek with my son. It was my first time and it was steep in places, but if your fit and used to walking you will be ok. most people could do it if you take your time. Maybe slippery in places. There is some natural water springs along the way, but recommend to carry at least 2 litres.
the view was amazing at the top. Sometimes visibility can be poor due to the clouds, but we were lucky.

Good hike , approx 3km. There is a decent temperature difference between the bottom and the top, in summer you are probably o.k with shorts and a t shirt and a bottle of water. Its quite busy in the summer periods in the morning but not busy enough to detract and constantly make you stop to have to pass people or let people pass you. At the end of the day there is no rush to get to the top , take your time, it will be worth it.

Group of us stayed at Denmark and did an early day trip to climb Bluff Knoll.
The walk up was challenging but so worth the amazing views and experience as you ascend the mountain.
The path is well maintained and still very natural.
Was a little over 3km to the top and took around 2- 1/2 hours to climb including many photo stops.
Shorter on the way down due to the legs burning and eager to relax.
Well worth the hike and very invigorating.
Ensure you bring warm clothes just incase and plenty of water.
Sunscreen is a must also.

Really cool spot! Make sure you are there very early in the morning, as that is the best chance to get the great views. If you start your hike later in the day, you risk warmer weather and a harder climb. You have to be lucky to get the clear sky when you are the top. The park rangers were great, friendly and will deffinitely answer any questions you might have and offer some great tips!

A sealed road leads in to commencement location of the Bluff Knoll walk where there is parking, toilets and park information. It is a popular walk and has a well maintained walking track heading up: the walk itself is not to be under-estimated, come prepared.
We walked about half-way up: the views were spectacular and the walking to that point not so difficult - quite steep with plenty of steps, but well maintained. Plenty of interesting flora around to.

This is a challenging trail. Of the 3km (one way), about 2.5km are steps. Not your average house steps, but steps up to 2x the normal height. On your way up, your calves will do the work, on your way down, your knees will feel it. But the views are well worth it and overall it is a very rewarding walk. Not recommended for people with weak legs, knees or stability issues, nor in inclement weather. Take plenty of fluids with you.

A very challenging hike. It’s hard work going up and chilly on the top. It’s a great achievement when at the top and fantastic views all the way up and down. I would recommend being very prepared with water and snacks for the hike. The hike can take up to 4 and a half hours depending on level of fitness.

Has anyone climbed the new trail? Could an almost 5 yr old cope?
Written September 24, 2020
I am 67 years old and when they say its straight up they are correct - the same goes for coming down :-)
I enjoyed the walk but it would be difficult for a young person as you are walking up steps (steep) most of the way to the summit. I'm not sure if little legs would appreciate the constant climb.

How difficult is climbing Bluff Knoll? How long more or less it takes? We r couple on our 60th....average fitness
Written November 1, 2019
It is not the easiest climb, however can be done by anyone with average fitness. The only difference is that depending on one’s fitness level, the time taken may change. Someone with good fitness level should take 1.5-2 hours for the climb. 30 mins to an hour can be added if one’s fitness level is not as good.

Hi guys! I was planning to drive to Bluff Knoll for a potential proposal at the top or something? Just wondering how long one would moderately walk up Bluff Knoll? Is there a best time to go, and more importantly is it very crowded at the top? I'm thinking end of November so I am hoping the weather is moderate, but not sure how busy it gets up there - it would be great to have a few minutes of quiet time with just us preferably to pop the question. Any advice or feedback on this idea for those that have been to the top? Would it have enough of a 'wow ' factor from the top , otherwise I could scrap the idea and find something that would leave a more memorable impression?
How long would it then take to get back down? 2 hrs? I am wondering also if it is reasonable to picnic or sit up the top to 'celebrate' and relax, or if it is quite a rocky/uncomfortable area to laze around - but with great views of course?
Would anyone have any suggestions on nearby things to do after? Thinking of departing on sat morning from Perth, so given it takes 3 or 4 hours to get there around lunch time I assume Saturday would be a write off by the time we get back down. I am then thinking the closest thing that makes sense is heading to Albany for the night, and enjoying the Sunday at wineries and local things around there before heading back to Perth by evening?? I think Pemberton is nearby Bluff Knoll but if anyone has any suggestions on towns, things to see/do down that way that'd be great as we usually head down Margaret River way. So this is probably the best chance to tick off a few things.
We love our food, wine and anything different, so I figured Albany was best? Sorry for the many questions - I've never been or climbed Bluff Knoll so have no idea what to expect !

Also, both me and my friend are not experienced hikers and it was our first big mountain hike and we were fine with following the path etc.!

Hi there, what would be the minimum age of children? I have a fit 7yr old and 2 1/2yr old
Recommend take kids or not?

Last time we hiked up to the waterfall with daughter 3yo and 6yo and decided to got back as was about run out of daylight. We weren't intended to hike up to the top, just to check how far our kids were interested in to the nature and surrounding. Amazingly they were so excited, they run, this question many thing, they touch, talk, cheer, sweat, and were still talked about that on the tent. We gave plenty of time for them to break, chit and chat and explore, we less intervene them about the time. I couldn't answer your question as it is really depend on many aspect, but my suggestion for the younger one, bring kid carrier and enjoy the journey. Cheers :)

Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip to the Albany area in a few weeks and am considering climbing Bluff Knoll. My only hesitation is that I'll be bringing my two year old daughter with me. I am more than happy to wear her the whole way or let her walk herself in places if the trail is reasonably safe, but my question is this: Am I completely insane to consider this with a toddler? I understand it takes about 4 hours round trip, and will expect to probably add an hour or so to account for my daughter slowing me down. I would plan to start first thing in the morning and be back down by lunchtime. Does this sound at all reasonable?

I have been walking for the best part of 50 years, and on this climb would recommend that you do not take this on with a 2 year old child. should you choose to do so I would estimate that this would take you more like6 to 7 hours. please let me know.
