Faut absolument le voir!! The frescoes are amazing and the views... I HIGHLY recommend! It's quite far so if you don't have a rental car, I recommend booking with a company like Traventuria.

As you enter your taken back with the amazing buildings and the painting of theses. The church inside is dark and dingy, due to the candles making the artwork dark and blackened. Public bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and you can smell them from 10m away...More

This monastery was the highlight of my trip to Bulgaria, and I'd come with high expectations from the start. It is a beautiful place, set high in the mountains with a lovely mountain backdrop. The monastery itself is large and the outer walls are fortified,...More

I went by car which is about 2 hours from Sofia. You can reach by highway quite close to Rila village, so it is good driving. I spend about 2 hours in the monastery enjoying its quiet space and beautiful paintings.

Hi from Blagoevgrad town (we are staying there), we are thinking of getting a taxi to the monastery, get the taxi to stay there for 1.5-2 h and then head back to Blagoevgrad town. We can't speak Bulgarian- how much is reasonable to pay for such a taxi trip?
