Gauguin's Pearl is the unique pearl farm on the Rangiroa atoll, in French Polynesia. Since it opened in 1992, it has provided local, ethical, traditional and ecological knowledge to all its customers. A very well-documented guided tour is provided as well, where you can discover the whole process from the birth of a Tahitian pearl to the creation of a jewel.

This Pearl Farm presented a very comprehensive presentation about the Pearl Farming process, from an explanation of techniques, through having guys actually seeding and harvesting where you can see it all happening. It is a huge investment and much of their product goes overseas for...More

The time, the expertise and the finished pearl product will mean that you may have to glue your credit card to your purse/wallet. The whole process is fascinating and well worth a visit - even if you don't buy - but you will!

Enjoyed seeing the whole process of how pearls were farmed, graded, and prepared for jewelry. Did not know there were so many different colors and shapes. Wound up buying some at the dock instead.

We knew absolutely nothing about black pearls. We were told that the best place to learn about them was on Rangiroa. So we set up a tour to this farm. After a short bus ride out we were given about a 20 minute introduction to...More

We had visited pearl farms before, but this one on Rangiroa Atoll went to some trouble top explain the seeding process and how the pearl is grown. Remember they are black pearls here in French Polynesia.

We went with the idea of learning more about pearls. They showed us how a pearl is "seeded" and thus grown, it was informative. I did not plan to buy but they had superb pieces of jewelry and I did. From what I saw in...More

Fun way to see the history of the pearls and how they are made. Plan to spend about 2-3 hours. Also know the black Tahitian Pearls are extremely expensive.
