- Canactive TravellerBrockworth, United Kingdom121 contributionsAmazing experience, take the time to enjoy the park and have patience for the tiger sightings! We had the best experience in the afternoon safaris we took, seeing mostly birds, deer, monkeys and similar smaller mammals in the morning. We were delighted to have seen a total of 4 tigers over 2 days so would highly recommend spending a bit more than just the 1 days looking for them if you don’t want to be disappointed. We had really good guides who tracked and got us in front of the tigers for very good views and allowed us time to wait for them to appear initially. We’d also highly recommend spending a bit more for a jeep rather than the huge canters which can’t move around so easily in the Forest.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023
- Marc39Cheltenham, United Kingdom41 contributionsAfternoon Sightings, AmazingWe visited Khem Villas and did 4 safaris. 2 shared Jeep and 2 private. We didn’t see any tigers on our 3 1/2 morning safaris, but plenty of other Tiger food wildlife. On our Afternoon a Safaris we were very lucky. Saw a New male without a name on one day and then on the second day saw the mother of the male the previous day and another rival female. Amazing. Tracks were well maintained for a safari and drivers well skilled. Guides were knowledgeable. Could have used radios to inform of sightings. Our last sighting was close to the end and our guide Raj manoeuvred the jeep and driver to the best slot to get an amazing view. We did then have to hold on whilst we Colin McRae’d to get out of the park by 6pm. We made it by 2 mins. The Fort on the park is a great back drop tooVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023
- BIGPYorkshireYork, United Kingdom71 contributionsWhere are you?Bucket list experience, but let down by how few actually get to see tiger. So best to set expectations in that lots of animals and wildlife, depending which of the 10 zones each vehicle must go to. We found mainly deer, monkeys, crocodiles and birds. We did get some excitement when all the trucks chased to a spot where one was seen. But. No joy when there. The trucks we had a couple of Safari's with didn't make sunrise because of chasing all over picking others up so missed that opportunity. No Tiger viewing, but still informative and enjoyable.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- Michael M119 contributionsThe Good, bad and UglyMy goal is to share a quick overview of what you are signing up for. The park is absolutely stunning. Lakes, Forests. Hills, 1,00 year old ruins and the magnificent Ramthanbore Fort looking out on the park. The visitor area is 1,400 square kilometers divided into 2 sections with 5 gates each. So call it 140 square kilometers per section. You stay in your section the entire drive. Morning starts at 6:30 to 10 and evening 2 to 6:30 They let in 15 to 20 vehicle in each section. Your driver is assigned a section an hour before you start. They say it is random. We have been in sections 1 to 5 over our ( drives. Approximately ( are large loud open top canter buses with 24 generally loud people. Call it 150 to 200 people all chasing the same tiger or two in their section. We rented a 6 seater gypsy. You want to be in a gypsy. Shared or private get a gypsy. You will see more wildlife. The massive and loud canter busses are a big problem. It is great that people want to see the park. The problem is the behavior is disrespectful to other guests and the wildlife. Crying babies, loud kids, teenagers doing bad cold play covers, adults yelling from bus to bus. This behavior impacted the sightings the past two evenings. Tigers just laid in the tall grass rather than deal with a loud mob. I blame park management. A little effort to educate the tourists on the way in regarding bush etiquette would go a long way. I glad I am here only because we saw a tiger. An amazing experience. Otherwise, I’d call this an expensive waste of time and money. My advice is to give yourself the best shot at seeing a tiger - gypsy and at least 4 game drives.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- Jack M4 contributionsGuiding advice / strategyMy husband posted an overview on how the park is layed out. I am sharing a couple of tips on how to get the most out of your safari. We have learned from our guide that seeing Tigers in October ( tall grass) requires an effort. We have seen tigers our last 3 drives. One morning we were the lead car of two the saw tigers in our section. That afternoon we were the lead car of four Gypsy’s to see a large male tiger. The next morning we were the only car to see a tiger. The reasons are twofold. Truly outstanding guide, Danish, and driver Ram. Their plan is to cover as much ground as possible. They are hawks the second they hear a warning call or the instant they see a fresh pug mark. We are in a state of constant motion until we see a tiger. No stopping for spotted deer under a tree. They converted as much ground as possible. All three sightings have been towards the latter half of the 3.5 hour window. All three sightings were second checks. In Other words, the tigers move into view after the first check. We have also tried to avoid what appears to be the top “guiding” strategy of parking near a warning call and sitting around an hour hoping that a tiger will be enticed by all the noise that is being made. This is an easy day but it does it does not appear productive A Gypsy is a huge advantage if your goal is to see a tiger. We booked our guide and driver thru Encounters Asia. This has been a huge success 100 percent due to Danish and RamVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023
- Miriam Rose37 contributionsJeep definitely better than canterWe went on two safaris at Ranthambhore. On our second safari we had a fantastic view of a tiger for approximately 20 minutes, 10 of which we were alone. We also saw a Leopard on the second drive. The opportunity to see wild tigers is definitely not to be missed. However, if you aren't lucky enough to see the big cats, aside from deer, there is less wildlife here. Our first safari was a canter in zone 4. The zone is pretty including some lakes. We saw fresh tiger tracks but no tiger. We did not enjoy the canter experience as much; pick up and drop offs took well over an hour and this meant we were later into / had less time in the park than lots of other groups. Having so many people was quite rowdy and we did not have any guide / commentary during the trip. The jeep safari was much better. This was in zone 2 which gave good views of the fort. The jeep was able to cover much more ground and access much smaller tracks which felt better. The guide was much more informative in talking about the birdlife, plants etc that we encountered. When we saw the tiger it was good being in a small group as we were very quiet; once the canters got word and started rolling in the tiger soon left.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- Chris SPoole, United Kingdom1,144 contributionsDisappointing example- park needs better controlThis is nothing like a South Afrcan safari.Really did not like how the park was managed. Great to see a tiger but totally unacceptable that those who pay more money, chase the tiger and drive at speed through all zones, kicking up dust and squeezing out others. The behaviour of those who are desperate to get that photo shot, was both rude and dangerous. I felt sorry for the tiger. Our guide was the first woman naturalist in the park - she should be in charge because others do not respect wildlife.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 29, 2023
- LK11 contributionsDon’t get your hopes up!Disappointing to find out that the travel agent did not book one of the 3 zones where there are very frequent tiger sightings. We went into both Zone 6 and Zone 7 and saw nothing much both times by way of wildlife. Jeep was very bumpy and it’s the luck of the draw if you get an experienced guide which is not decided by you or the travel agent. They are selected from the local community to promote employment and are quite amateur when it comes to looking for the animals. They just drive in, do the circuit and drive out. If you can get guaranteed entry into Zone 3, it’s worth going, otherwise don’t bother!!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 30, 2023
- My Hong HBelgium11 contributionsIt’s a matter of luck and lots of patient. We booked a game drive through our hotel Earth couple of months before. We got the chance to go with a canter (+- 15 people in total) into zone 3 in the morning. Our guide spoke understandable English. The guide told us that there were no tigers seen the last 3 days in our zone which lowered our expectations. When we were about to leave (we were ofcourse disappointed), we suddenly saw a tiger with her 3 cubs! It was a wonderful moment!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 7, 2023

We visited the park as highlight of our family holiday to India. My wife, three children aged 14, 11 and 8 always dreamed of viewing a tiger in the wild...
Things did not work out like we envisaged. Despite booking our 4 safaris well in advance and specifically requesting zones close to our accommodation at Nahargahr Ramthabore, we were treated very poorly. (The hotel has nothing to do with the safaris which were independently booked). We were allocated to the furthest zones on three of our excursions - two of the zones required over an hour of driving with the children in an open Gypsy in the freezing cold and on terrible roads. The long drive to get to the entrance of each zone meant a much shorter actual safari in the park and obviously a much diminished chance of viewing tigers. Our safari guide for the three distant zones, Shantanu Singh was really good and tried hard to make us happy but was severely constrained by the shortened safaris and poor zones. For the one safari that we were lucky enough to get zone 1 which is close by, our guide was late to fetch us in the afternoon and was completely unskilled and disinterested in successfully tracking a tiger.
We realize that tiger sightings are not guaranteed and we are very familiar with safaris back home in Africa. For what we paid for the Ranthambore safaris, we expected to be treated better and more professionally as have our been past experiences in Africa.
We saw no tigers and our Ramthambore experience was a great disappointment!!

We visited the national park in the beginning of December. The trip made me realize two things in life. 1. Patience and 2. Luck
We had booked one morning zone 3(6.30 am) and one evening zone 2(2.30 pm) safari. On the first safari we were able to spot a leopard. All congratulated us as leopard sightings are supposed to be rare. But we had come here for the tiger and nothing else would complete the trip. So themorning safari ended with no sighting and news that tiger had been sighted in zone 4 and 5 . With heavy heart we went back had a beeakfat and got rwady for the second safari. We saw great no to deer and antelopes mongoose crocodiles and birds but no sighting of tiger. The safari ended with no sighting again with news that tiger had been sighted in zone 4 again. We had to leave for Delhi in the morning but made a decision to take another safari next day morning zone 3. Next morning we went back with not much hope. After 2 -3 false alarms finally we saw a tiger in all its glory. It is worth all the trouble that one takes in a trip like this.
Takeaway points
1. Not every safari trip will have a sighting
2. Zone 3 and 4 are the best zones to visit right now but these change with time so if possible ask a local guide before booking.
3. Direct booking of gypsy and cantor is possible through Rajasthan tourism site but agents are able to get arrangements done even if website shows full.
4. Not much difference between gypsy and Cantor except that gypsies are able to respond faster in the jungle.

Took 2 safaris. Zone 2, in the morning, saw nothing. In the the evening we roamed about for 3 hours in zone 3 and no movement happened. Arrowhead, Riddhi or Siddhi didn’t want to meet us! My son was highly disappointed as I had told him that Ranthambore means Tiger. As kids, we never went dissatisfied from this sanctuary. On way out, we all gave up hope except our enthusiastic guide Mr Harvinder (Bobby). Since the beginning he said, I will show you the tiger today. But he positive attitude didn’t impress the tigers. Out of zone 3, on the fort road he heard a monkey call and made Shahzyada (driver) turn around, he pointed at a faraway peak and said there is a leopard, there wasn’t any. Again disappointed we sat down. Now we were looking forward only to our dinner at the Taj. My son was packing his camera equipment and suddenly our guide said ‘Tiger Tiger, I looked up cynically and couldn’t believe my eyes. The beautiful animal was only 5-10 feet from us, just before the entry of Maingate! My son snapped a picture once and we had barely soaked our eyes in this beautiful moment, when 2 VIP jeeps of the government came and their people started shooing all the ‘lesser mortals’ like us away as we were blocking their ‘sahebs’ way. Much to our irritation, they threatened and abused all the on lookers away from the spot to clear their view. So our ‘mehnat’ for 2 full days and the success was short lived. ☹️. My son had his first brush with the brut attitude of government, he couldn’t believe he was not allowed to see the Tiger as some government office people with sticks forced us out of the sanctuary. I being older and used to being a second grade citizen in my own country, explained to him, it took him a while to settle down his anger. Then as ‘adjusting’ Indians we enjoyed the fact that at least we got to see the stripped beauty! All thanks to Mr Harvinder who didn’t give up his positive attitude till the end. I hope that when my son gets his children, the system and attitude of government officials would have changed from the ‘British Raj’ attitude. All in all our stay at Taj Vivanta was flawless and they maintained their reputation of being number one in hospitality. We were also happy with the spotting, even though for a fleeting minute. We had managed to click a photo. So checking out tomorrow with a happy state of mind with a tinge of bitterness at being treated as criminals after being dutiful law adding, tax paying citizens of the country. Anyway...we were lucky to have spotted ‘Sultana’ as thankfully she didn’t treat us like lesser mortals! Animals don’t discriminate!

A fantastic experience. We were warned by many people that tigers are very elusive. On our first drive we saw fresh tracks and heard the roar of a tiger but no sighting. That afternoon we went out again, both guide and driver very informative and you could tell that they also wanted to see a tiger. After following tracks and accelerating we rounded a corner and there to the left in long grass was a male Bengal tiger! Then we looked to the right on flat rocks, in the sun was a female! We were overwhelmed and even our guide was excited! We were in a small jeep, which enables you to get into tight spaces.
We sat there, quietly for ages, taking endless photos.
It doesn’t get better than that.
On our third drive we saw a young tiger running in water but in the far distance, too far to take pictures.
One of the best experiences ever.

I booked this part of the itinerary for my husband but it was a highlight for both of us. After hearing how difficult it is to see a tiger we ended up with one appearing and walking down the road towards us. It dissapeared into the bushes but the driver took us to 4 different viewing spots and we saw her each time while she was on her travels. It was a wonderful experience. We were in a smaller jeep so we nipped in and out and got the most out of the sightings.
In the afternoon we were taken to a different zone where we drove around the lake and saw deer, monkeys, birds and wild boar. The scenery was wonderful. It was a peaceful day in India's countryside. I would highly recommend this experience.

Ok, so to start with, if one is planning the visit during last week of December, it is best advisable to plan the safari bookings at-least 3 months in advance. We planned it 40 days in advance, so could not get the safari in the zone we wanted. But what’s zone ? let me explain.
The entire park is divided into zones – 1 to 10. Zone 1-6 are generally considered VIP zones (or the ones having higher probability of good sightings). Good sightings mean seeing herds of dear, crocodiles, sambhar, neel-guy(don’t know its English version name).
Zone 2&3 are the best zones. The reason is that zone 3 has the access to a big lake (forgot its name) and zone 2 has tiger residence zones. We went to zone 5. It has huge populations of deer. I kept on saying to myself I wouldn’t see tiger here since huge extended families of deer are sun bathing here in peace.
Canter tickets are not bad if you ask me, the major difference between canter and gypsy is that gypsy is far more comfortable. And of course canter carries a lot more people.
Moral is if you get canter tickets for zone 2/3 go for them. For gypsy tickets, you need to search for safari bookings (sawai madhopur) or the resort and then go from there. Online booking of gypsy for this time is not possible.
Other attractions –
Ranthambore Fort (great views of 3 lakes / zone 3 lake/ Ganesh temple)
Crocodile sanctuary

I heard about the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve and I was excited to to do a tiger safari. However my experience was very lackluster! The safari which I booked was on a monday. I had a morning safari and then an afternoon safari. You have two options when doing the safari (riding in a jeep that seats about 6 people) or riding in an open bus (which seats over 20 people). I chose the Jeepsy (6 seaster).I had no idea that the park has zones and you explore a certain zone in the morning and then a different one in the afternoon. I was assigned Zone 6 and eager to see the tigers. Zone 6 was very bare and all I saw was elk, deer and a few monkeys. I saw more animals walking the street in New Dehli than in zone 6. What made me annoyed is the drama that the guides partake in (driving fast to the location of the tigers because supposedly they heard them and that tigers will be there but in the end there were no tigers or stopping the jeep to show us fresh tiger tracks but yet again no tiger). So after about 3 hours of driving around in the circle in zone 6 and not seeing a tiger. I thought "ah ok its just mother nature and maybe in the afternoon safari, I'll go to a different zone and maybe I'll spot some tigers". In the afternoon, I was picked up and I was taken to zone 6 AGAIN! The guides did the same drama show in the morning and I was unable to see any tigers. It was a waste of time and money. After coming back to the hotel, I did some research and found out that if you pay more money (tip your driver/guide), or stay in one of the 5 star hotels in Ranthambore then you're more than likely going to be in the ideal zone. What happens is at the beginning of the year the tickets for the safari go on sell and the local hotel owners buy them all up (The ideal zones of 2 and 3) and then they resale them for outrageous prices. Yes, there are 10 zones but its highly unlikely that the tigers will in the higher zones when they have lush greenery and a pond/lake in zones 2 and 3. Such a scam and waste of money!

This safari very disappointing from the beginning itself due the several glitches in official booking web site itself to encourage the private booking agents . After several attempts to book our Safari which has morning / evening timings each of 3 hours duration . We finally took the help of a local booking agent in Sawai Madhopur who changed us heavily and did not provide the receipts . We paid Rs 21000/- for 2 days for an Indian and a foreigner We came to know about the zones from zone number 1 to 10 . We were allotted zone 1 on the first day which had a a lake crocodiles , deer , stags and Neel gai and zone 7 ( mostly peaks of hilly area and nothing much to see except the vegetation and birds on the second day ) . We were later on advised by the locals that one can make changes in the allotted zones of safari by making a payment of Rs 2000/- . The lack of any of this information on the official is appalling and shocking . The choice of vehicles is big and small - Canter or A Jeep depending of the number of member limiting 4 member for Jeep and vice versa . The safari vehicles are generally private hands approved and authorized by concerned authorities . The guides and drivers are generally very
efficient and trust worthy . But a lot can be corrected to make safari a pleasant experience instead of frustrating experience . A pricy ticket of safari should certainly have a route of the allotted areas of zones clearly marked on map with the timely indication of what to expect in each zones and clearly the entry point of each zones . The department can handle the procedure a little better in handling the booking process to make it more tourist friendly instead of mismanagement .

This is an extremely over-rated place. Although spotting a tiger is definitely luck of draw, the reality is that the park rangers and city has falsely published tiger count to continue attracting visitors. We stayed here for several nights in December but none of the travelers spotted a single tiger inside the park. More importantly, it seemed pretty obviously based upon the tour that the tiger count has been drastically reduced and substantially differs from the official count. My advice: save your money, time and hassle of getting to here from Jaipur. If you really want to see tiger up and close, go to a zoo.

We visited Ranthambore National Park in the month of April as the chances of tiger spotting are high during this month. We booked a morning Safari through TravelGleam Wild (9958993316, 9899954675) and we were lucky to spot a tigress and her cubs in zone 10. We had no idea about the zones and which zones are good but Saurabh from TravelGleam Wild helped us with the right zone and also made our bookings. I would suggest doing some research and connecting with the right people before booking your safari as the zone you book matters a lot.
Zone 10 was far from our property but the morning drive was an experience in itself. Although while returning back it got quite hot, but we were very satisfied with our overall experience so that heat really didn't matter to us.

Zone 4 & zone 2 has more chances of sighting tigers. Preferably in the afternoon safari as mornings are foggy & tigers can’t be seen

Hello,
Planning to visit Ranthambore in October.
My arrival time is 5:30 am at sawaimadhopur railway station.
Same day morning safari possible or not?
If i will book online , canter or jeep will pick up from railway station or we have to go to any nearest pick up point?
Only copy of booking PDF and one ID proff will sufficient? Or need to collect any boarding pass or something?

5;30am is too tight. You can do an afternoon safari on the same day, instead.
The vehicles do come to your hotel. Our Safari jeep did. Not sure about the canter.
Booking form and ID will suffice.
Am telling you from my personal experience. Not sure if rules have changed.
Good luck for the sightings, but don't come away disappointed. The RNP is beautiful, otherwise.

Hi Odet, I saw you had good experience with your lodge/hotel. Can you suggest name of hotel where you stayed?

Hi
Apologies for not replying sooner. We stayed in the 'Jungle Villas'. The hotel is outside of the town. We received excellent service from the staff, the rooms are large and it has a great swimming pool in which to relax in or next too.
