I had a great walk in the dragon's backbone rice terraces. This is a must do when you're in the neighbourhood. The trip there and back to Guilin are quite long, but it is worth the trip.

This is one of the places which you do not wish to leave. Although you have to walk for at least half an hour to reach the village, it is worth it. While walking on the path which no large vehicles are allowed to access,...More

Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces is a 'must do' on any trip to rural China. Plan your trip in advance and stay at least two nights on the mountain. There are plenty of little guesthouses to choose from that are value for money and because they...More

We had an unusual day here with our tour here. The weather was not the best but we had a great time walking up the hill among the rice fields. After the special bus ride up to the entrance, we walked for about 45 minutes...More

The rice terraces looked lovely from the balcony of the Baike Hotel and the next morning walked 35 minutes further up the hill to the 7 Stars and Moon viewing point, where there is a cafe and toilet, for another perspective. The terraces looked impressive...More

We took a 2 hour bus drive as part of a tour from Guilin to see the terraces and the weather was appalling, but even through the mist they are impressive. A short 15 minute walk and you come to a 'village' consisting of a...More

We never expected this place to be so scenic and beautiful whether in sunshine or rain! There are lovely trails along the mountains to view the rice terraces and villages of the ethnic Red Yao people.

I was born and raised in Guilin. So I'll try to review from a tourist's perspective. (Yes, it may be biased because I <3 my hometown). There are many trails to hike in the terraces. A couple of them are more tourist-friendly. Those trails will...More

We visited during the Golden Week holiday, taking 5 hours to travel from Guilin because of big traffic jams. Walking was very pleasant, with fabulous views of the ancient rice terraces which were turning a beautiful golden colour. We missed the turn off the Tiantouzhai...More

Absolutely loved this experience. You hike up the mountain to get good exercise and the higher up you go the better the view. It was so cool to see the tiny village and how people lived. I highly recommend - this is a must see.

I concur with the other respondents. If all you want to do is look at the terraces, then a long drive offers ample views. But if you want to walk in them, and explore the villages that are surrounded by the rice terraces... More
