Worth the visit, eventhough architecturally the structure and the work is nowhere near the Santhome, chennai Bessilica, a place as holy as any other holy site. Good vibration and energetic. Tourist friendly and self explanatory hoardings.

This is an important pilgrimage place for Christians in Tamilnadu. Very calm and neatly maintained place. Right next to velankanni beach.

Try visiting the church in the mornings. Its quite a pleasant experience. Also take a walk down the Stations of the Cross and other attractions.

November and December are the best months to visit Velankanni. The Summer is at its peak in April & May. Due to school holidays there are a lot of visitors and too crowded. Beginning of December is the best time
Does anyone know if the main shrine is under renovation between July and Aug 2015. Please advuse.

Yes. I understand from Fr.Zacharias of the Shrine, that it is closed for renovation in the months of July and August 2015. For the festival period in September, the main Basilica will be kept open to devotees and after the... More
