We didn't know about this place until we visited the farmers market in Kagawong. You don't usually see it advertised in tourist brochures but it's a must see when in the area. Admission is by donation. It's a relatively small space but it packs a lot. Cute gift shop too. Lots of info about the history of the area during wartime, etc. Interesting stories about celebrities including a local 'murder mystery'! The artifacts are well researched and so interesting. There was a special exhibit featuring the shipwreck of the Empress of Ireland which was fascinating.

This place is a hidden gem. A must see. Check the hours before visiting as not sure if it's open every day. If so, it might be on limited hours.

We do not normally visit museums at any time. However, this was recommended to us by the people who own the Pulled Pork Hut. It was indeed very fascinating. We particularly enjoyed seeing the video and reading all the articles about a girl from Gore Bay and Danny Dodge of the famous Dodge family. I am still intrigued by the story of that unlucky day for Danny when he had an accident while playing with explosives and then while being transported by boat to hospital by his new bride, falling off and drowning in the North Channel.

Some of the other exhibits were not so interesting to me as I did not know who they were. Perhaps, they are famous to the local citizens and as such I might suggest they add a synopsis letting us visitors know who these people were.

I was also a little confused as to whether there was an entry fee. On the way in, I noticed a sign indicating that they required donations to keep it open and there was a big glass bottle with money near the sign. I thought to myself that I would likely give something on the way out particularly if it was good but then someone standing at the entrance immediately asked us for 10 dollars which he put in the bottle. We simply "donated" the money and did not say anything but I felt a little "put off" by this. I would rather them simply state up front there is an entry fee.

Want to see how life in the area was back a hundred years ago? Then stop in to this little museum.
There is no entry charge, but donations are truly appreciated.
They even let you bring your dog in with you.
Loved reading all of the stuff regarding the Dodge (Dodge Automotive) family tragedy that happened on the island.

If you are visiting Bridal Veil Falls, stop in for a quick trip through history.

went into the museum and saw box that said entry by donation. I am usually ok with this concept but today the attendant brought it to my attention about the donation box. I indicated that I would donate ( emphasis on DONATE) on my way out as I usually decide what it is worth and usually leave a decent donation. Today I was told I needed to DONATE to enter and that a minimum of $5.00 was necessary. I was on a limited time frame and was just going to do a look and see and maybe decide what I would DONATE. From the attitude of the attendant we left without entering but I did leave $1.00 just to support their effort. If this gentleman was there again I would avoid this place. I was there about 4 months earlier for another display and was impressed with the display at the time, but I doubt I will return after today's attitude expressed by the attendant. I always thought that Donation was what I wanted to give not being told what to give and not to enter before giving. This person needs a course in manners and people skills.

A nice museum summarising some of the history of Kagawong. Entrance was by donation. Not a huge museum but quite a lot packed into a small space.

The Kagawong area is beautiful and very scenic. With lighthouses, various sculptures and water all around. We saw the old Mill on our way back from the hike at Bridal Veil Falls. Unfortuantely it was too late in the day and it was closed. The stone building is lovely and the park overlooking the bay is very pretty. Get there before 4pm to see the inside museum.

I visited Kagawong from Windsor and absolutely loved the Old Mill. I'm happy I made it part of my many stops on the island as it stood out among other attractions. I visited the museum more than once as there is just so much to see. The Pearson exhibit was great and informative. The staff were super friendly and helped with questions and gave great tours. They accept donations which I think is a great concept. Don't miss the Old mill!

This is located at the end of the bridal veil falls trail. We went on a Wednesday during their Market located just outside the building. A beautiful spot with lots to see and do. Post office museum located right beside it and a nice little beach is there as well.

We were under the impression the place was free but a man at the desk strongly suggested we give a donation. I went back to the car, got some money and dropped in a few coins, which he sort of scowled at. If they want to charge admission, do so and do so clearly. We aren't Canadian or cheap. Simply didn’t have a lot of small Canadian bills. The museum wasn’t very big and if it wasn’t air conditioned, might not have been worth the stop.

This is a beautiful spot with a great view of the Mudge Bay of the North Channel of Lake Huron. These museums were not open when I was there. They are probably open only on weekends in Summer season. But there are many machine artifacts outside as they were too big or to heavy to get inside. Most have labels and explanations.
