About
The pink lakes of Las Coloradas are one of Mexico's most mesmerizing sights, known for their bubblegum-pink waters, soft white sands, and powder blue skies. The pink color is caused by the high salinity of the salt flats and the presence of microorganisms. Visit in the early afternoon when the lakes are the most vibrant under the strong midday sun.
The best way to visit this remote lagoon is on a full-day tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Riviera Maya. These tours typically include the Ria Lagartos nature reserve, where you can spot flamingos, crocodiles, and other wildlife in its wetlands.

- AlondraGrand Prairie, Texas4 contributionsDISAPPOINTED.We did a tour of rio lagartos & las coloradas.. we were a little upset because once we got there from Tulum (where we stayed) it was a 3hr drive and the guide told us the lake was not pink during this time. We insisted to go because we looked it up and this lake is supposed to be pink every day out of the year. Once we got there we only saw a orange tint somewhat pink but not really lake. Not sure if it’s bc of the area he took us too.. but very disappointed. Not worth the $2,000 MXN boat ride and the $320 USD taxi ride.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten December 12, 2022
- Dynamic DuoWeston super Mare, United Kingdom138 contributionsHugely disappointing. We visited the pink lakes as part of a tour and this was our first stop from Playa del Carmen. Having seen the pictures and read the reviews, I knew it was hit and miss with the water, colour, salad extraction etc but I was very disappointed. It was merely an empty area of land with very little water and a slight pink hue. It was riddled with vehicles and machinery extracting the salt which totally ruins the natural scenery. It's ruining it full stop. Now, we knew about the additional tax for entry but we decided not to pay it given the disappointment when we arrived. Therefore, we took pictures from walking around it ourselves and took a stroll through the small town to also find some lovely graffiti. We also saved £30! 🥳 Haha! Either way, the entire day trip wise was great. All that followed really made up for it but the pink lakes in Las Coloradas were a huge disappointment and us humans are wrecking it I am afraid. Goodness knows where the 300pesos per person is actually going... 🤔Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten December 20, 2022
- JLynn22Boston, Massachusetts82 contributionsMan made and over priced! This is $300 pesos ( $17) to take a few photos. I did not find it worth it, though my photos were cool, I found out this is all owned by the salt company and this is a man - made construct. All the money you pay goes straight to the salt company and they keep it for themselves. The locals wish they would donate some to the town and the bio reserve but they do not. the salt from this company also affects the bio reserve and destroys some of the habitats. Don't waste your timeVisited January 2023Written January 3, 2023
- Magda D12 contributionsNot worth itThe entrance fee is 300 pesos, which we found highly overpriced. The area you can can to is quite small with one lookout tower. You can see it quite enough from the parking lot and the water is not such pink as in the photos. Nice to look if you are in the area but not worth the entrance fee in my opinion.Visited January 2023Written February 23, 2023
- Jennifer T3 contributionsNot worth your time and money, be prepared to sit forever and be hungry. Not much for your time and money. Sure it’s cool to see pink water but it’s man made and a tourist trap. The boat ride was nice but nothing extraordinary. I wouldn’t put the Mayan mud on my body knowing there’s chemically treated ponds beside it. And be careful which your company you use. In our case sunwing have us false information, citing a 2 hour trip one way, a breakfast and chance to shop. None of which were true. There was a total of 9 hours on the bus, a juice box, snack bar, bag of chips and small water offered. Lunch wasn’t until 2. No chances for shopping. Not worth the long, hungry, tiring bus ride at all. We saw a few crocs and flamingos from a great distance.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten February 24, 2023
- Mehdi31 contributionsSkip the tourist desk and USD 20 fee pp, and drive along towards las colaradas beach to se saline pools and flamingos for freeThe official tourism desk charges USD 20 per foreigner adult to walk one km by the saline pool -- it is even more expensive to go up the mirador. It didnt look worth it, and we simplh looked at the pink warnter from the parking lot. You are better off driving and stopping further along the narrow sand road between the saline pools and the Gulf of Mexico, towards las coloradas beach and public parking. We could see flamingos quite close.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten April 20, 2023

It's a salt processing lake and they are very aware that they are an IG Hotspot so they have a few instagrammable spots that they have set up which is perfect!

Very rare sight of a pink lake! Would recommend going in afternoon (12 PM) to see the pink shade if you go earlier or late will see it as orange. I would not recommend spending money to walk towards the las colorados board or pay the local guides (they don't know anything) for a private tour. It's all a scam. You can get good pics right before the information center. So, it's not worth paying for it!

Amazing pink lake. Go in the afternoon. It looks so pink and later if it’s cloudy it looks more light orange. We didn’t go to the visitor center, it was not reasonable we just took pictures from the parking lot.

We went here as part of a birdwatching tour with Ecocolors. Saw some good birds with close-ups of the flamingos. The main lake is quite pink. We were in the area so it was great, may not be worth the drive from Cancun

3.5 hours approx… you can go to Valladolid that is mid-way between the two and it is beautiful! Just as a stop for early lunch or to spend the night. It is best to be at Las Coloradas around 1 pm when the sun is up heating the waters so you can see a deeper pink
Hola!!

Espérate a Mayo 2021
Saludos.
