We took a taxi from Cancun to Rio Lagartos ad took the tour with one of Diego's sons. From the numerous animal species we saw, topped off by the flamingos this is an experience I shall never forget and do highly recommend. After the tour, we ate at their restaurant, the food was very tasty. Next time I go back... More

Give yourself plenty of time for the drive from Valladolid, and arrive early enough for a pre-trip lunch at the Ria Maya restaurant. The tour starts about 3 p.m. We were four women, two of whom were photographers. Our guide, whom we highly recommend, was Francisco, aka "Paco". He brought along a birding book, binoculars, and cold bottles of water.... More

This tour is amazing- we saw the pink flamingos, crocodiles, many different types of birds and the pink salt lake. It was just so interesting to see such different things and our tour guide was very knowledgable and really enjoyed what he did.

Diego Nunez and family have made it their mission to share this place where an amazing number of birds reside year round. I took the land tour with Diego and he later arranged a boat tour for me with William. Both speak English and are extremely knowledgeable about birding. I would recommend staying 3 nights to be sure you have... More

My wife and I took the 3-hour de-luxe private boat tour with an English-speaking guide for US$119. We set off just after 6:30 am and immediately saw plenty of birdlife, including flamingos, pelicans, frigates, and hawks. We were also taken to see the pink salt ponds at Los Colorados, which were worth a visit. We declined the offer to go... More

We spent one night at Rio Lagartos Adventures and loved it. Diego Nunez is amazing and has obviously worked very hard to know all the birds and animals of the Yucatan and he also obviously loves to share his knowledge. Diego took us out in the afternoon in a boat and we saw the flamingos, storks, tiger herons and many,... More

Diego jumped to the rescue when another guide in town let us down. Some fine birding, which William continued in excellent fashion out in the mangroves by boat and then even early Christmas day by car. Professional, expert and caring.

We took a boat trip with Rio Lagartos Adventures in Feb 2014. I was amazed by flamingo photos I saw. But not sure if we would be able to get the experience that we expect, I was communicating with Diego (the owner) prior booking. I was disappointed that he wasn't honest about the situation. Turned out that there were very... More
