Beautifully appointed gardens
Aug. 2020 • Solo
Although the castle was closed, the gardens were open to visit. The Japanese garden was very tranquil with its bridge over a pond filled with fish. The Italian gardens were spectacular. The sight of the coast was very appealing.

Stunning
May 2019
The grounds were beautiful, the gardens, the ocean view everything was amazing. I just wish we could have had a tour of the inside.

Stunning castle on a lagoon and gardens.

Spend a few hours strolling the Japanese and Italian gardens. Over bridges and bogs. Fall colors were amazing.

Poop poop and lot more poop
Oct. 2019 • Couples
There are so many poops EVERYWHERE especially on the way to the building. On the walkway and grass. I had to look where I was going to make sure not to step on them. It was hard. Sometime I didn’t have choice but jump over the poops. Garden smelled of cat urine. I couldn’t go inside because they were having a wedding. The building itself was beautiful. I hope they maintain it much better.

A Real Highlight
Jul. 2019 • Couples
About twenty-five minutes from downtown Victoria is Royal Roads University. On the grounds are both the Hatley Castle and the adjoining and exhaustive gardens and forests. All of this is given to visitors to tour. There is an admission price for the actual castle but the grounds are free to wander. And wander you will, as there is so much to see. A hidden gem is "Charlie's Trail" which is located across the main road and brings you into a stunning forest.

Not sure how much history is left in the home; gardens are pretty
May 2019 • Couples
We went on Mother’s Day when the home was free to visit. That’s either good news or bad news, depending upon your perspective. The grounds and home were very crowded both with adults and tons of children running around. I’m glad we didn’t have to pay, because I don’t think there is much historical significance left in the home. You only see the ground floor and there are only a couple of rooms furnished. I think the home has been a school for too long to have retained any of the original history. That said, I enjoyed the grounds and gardens (despite the crowds and kids running around). Don’t be too disappointed if you miss this attraction. But if you have an hour or so, the gardens are worth a visit. And on a day when it is less busy, it might be more enjoyable.

Beautiful Setting
Jul. 2018 • Friends
We did not tour the Castle on our visit but instead spent several hours wandering through the extensive and beautiful gardens. It was a joy to see the variety of blooms and there are several different locations such as the Japanese Garden, Formal Garden, etc.

Spectacular Gardens
Apr. 2019 • Friends
Disappointed that the Royal Toads building was not open to the public but the Hatley Gardrns are spectacular. They will be better yet in June when the roses are in bloom.

Worthwhile visit.
Sep. 2018 • Couples
Very informative guide gave us a tour of the grounds and the history of the castle. Wouldn't quite call it a castle but it was built by a Scotsman.
