About
Extraordinary wines that give life to our unique place in the Okanagan Valley. We create wines that embody the essence of our unique location in the Okanagan Valley, giving life to a sense of place that defines our winery. It’s a sense that reflects the opportunities that come with each season, the stories of the vintages and the character in every bottle. The experiences, understanding and dedication of the people who nurture the vines and produce our wines. A sense, out of nothing, of a lifelong dream to create wines of which we can forever be proud. We welcome you to Ex Nihilo Vineyards, our tasting room, gallery and restaurant, and look forward to sharing it with you.

I'm shocked at some of the reviews of Ex Nihilo, as someone who frequents Kelowna and their wineries, this is one of the best wineries in the city, hands down. The wines cater to both red and white wine drinkers and the property is gorgeous. The staff are also friendly and knowledgeable. I joined their wine club a few years ago and its also one of the better wine clubs out there, in terms of discount and benefits. If you are a wine drinker, definitely stop in at this winery, you wont be disappointed. My only complaint is that they used to have their bistro open for lunch through the summer, and that seems to have stopped. The pizza is amazing!

My wife and I had a fabulous dinner last night at the winery. We requested to be seated inside and we were given a candlelit window table overlooking the lake and sunset, inside the tasting room. Very romantic. Their chef can cook! Some of the best food we have had in the Okanagan. Also well priced, especially considering that you are eating and walking through a beautiful winery. The corkage fee on our bottle of wine was $10.00. We had the merlot, fantastic wine. Can’t give enough superlatives about our dining experience. Our waitress Melissa was so friendly and attentive to our needs. Also in these challenging times the winery did a great job with Covid safety protocols. We always felt safe and were well distanced from other guests. Masks were worn by staff so don’t hesitate if your looking for a great meal in a very special location.

This was our 3rd visit to Ex Nihilo since our son moved out to the Okanagan in 2019. Their wines are excellent, the property and views are gorgeous, and their back story is very interesting. We had a fabulous tasting with Wayne. He knew his wine and poured generously! He suggested that mid-week visits were better, as the weekends are busy - thankfully this was our second stop on a Thursday. We enjoyed a table on the patio for our tasting of many fine wines, and then took a little peep inside to make some purchases and check out the artwork. Definitely worth a 4th visit...next time we must try the restaurant!

Hadn’t been here in over 7 years and we were excited to stop in while in Lake Country. So much has been added/developed over the years, the property looks great. The tasting room is cozy and offers a great atmosphere.
Unfortunately the person who was helping us didn’t seem very engaged and rushed through the wine descriptions.
The Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir were both favourites in our group. Pricing here is double in some cases as compared to other wineries in this region and the wines aren’t twice as good.

Dust, semi-arid landscape to beautiful oasis in Lake Country, Ex Nihilo Vineyards is as the name describes “out of nothing”! During a visit to San Francisco and Napa valley to visit family they were inspired by a mesmerizing sculpture depicting images formed out of chaos by famous artist Frederick Hart (original castings for the facade that adorns Washington National Cathedral). In that very memorable moment their vision also was cast- build their own winery and call it Ex Nihilo!
Four years of planning and exploring to find the perfect parcel, the couple serendipitously came across a small 10 acre with a hand painted for sale sign (2003). Soon after, what was once a dream became reality when the Harder’s purchased the lot, planted their desired vines and built their winery.
Fast forward, with seasoned winemaker Jim Faulkner (Cedar Creek, Summerhill, Church and State and recently Mt Boucherie) he will certainly expand on the promising portfolio and definitely turn a dream into a destination. Exceptional wines!
We had a great time visiting with Jeff, and had such informative and warm hosting from Angie! 🍷🥂🍇🏆

We are hosting visiting friends and doing some wine tastings in Kelowna and Lake Country. We came to Ex Nihilo and we were so turned off by our experience. Our server was gruff, abrupt, had a “spiel” that could only be delivered at the end of the tastings. Couldn’t answer questions as we went. Questions could only be asked after the presentation (?). Brought out a tired cardboard picture of the sculpture that the vineyard was named after. Not friendly. Not warm. We left without buying anything. It just felt like a lack of genuine warmth compared to other experiences.

The woman that greeted us was kind of rude but ok we were seated inside and a very nice woman gave us the wine for tasting. We were there August 26, 2020. There had been quite a few cases of Covid in Kelowna and most businesses were very good at keeping people social distancing, but not this winery, people were lined up to buy wine they were almost touching each other. I got in line when I could be 6 ft from the person in front of me, staff were going in front of me people behind me almost touching me I said social distancing and the people behind kept their distance. The winery should have been reminding people not my job. Other wineries were great. We won’t be back!

Ended our lake country B.C. wine tour at Ex-Nihilo winery. They were busy due to a movie shoot so our entrance got mixed up. But then spoke with one of the managers and he took us back to a private tasting room, made sure we had a free tasting, and treated us excellent. I am planning more guests next week so we will stop again. Call ahead for reservations. Bought more wine, great job to the tasting manager.

Of all the wine tasting we did around Kelowna, I would say this stop was my favourite! To start with the grounds are superb! The covered patio is very cosy and allowed you to admire the grounds and enjoy the beautiful weather.
When we arrived, the hostess was very friendly. We did not have reservations but I think that because we were early in the day, there was room for us. The hostess gave us a glass of their Imagine (prosecco style) to sip on while we made our way to our to the table. I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful this was. If you like prosecco, you will love this! So crisp and fruity. You wil not want to leave without at least one bottle of the Imagine!
Since I am a red wine lover, I went for the red wine tasting. What a diverse range of tasting. Very lovely.
I cannot go without saying how wondering all of the staff were. Everyone was so friendly and very knowledgeable. A very warm and friendly atmosphere. We wanted to try their pizza but unfortunately the restaurant did not open until dinner.
We will plan things around having supper there on our next trip out!

Have been wanting to try this place for quite some time, and was not disappointed! The location is lovely with a beautiful outside tasting area overlooking the Vineyard. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine which was delicious and brought a flight of wines to our table. You can choose from red white or a mix which was a nice touch. The staff regularly checked in to see if we had questions and share their thoughts about their favorites. Would love to have stayed longer and just enjoyed the conversation. Wines are not inexpensive, but worth it if you want a nice bottle for a special occasion or to treat yourself. Regardless, definitely go even for the experience on a nice day.
