Fantastic viewpoint with no hiking, just a short, paved walk from the parking lot. This is a must do.

Come to the King's View lookout for a beautiful view of the Sete Cidades lakes. The lakes are a huge volcanic caldera.

The first lookout to start with on way to Sete Cidades. Loved it and it is just breath taking. But its only the beginning in Sao Miguel

I combined three hiking trails for a total of 30km and covered a large part of the seven cities area.
I could say that this viewpoint was the least special part of the tour. Since it is next to the road and has a parking lot next to it, it is a typical stop for tours and tourists who do not hike. If you tour the area on foot, you will find better viewpoints.

As of April, they were doing construction on the road that directly accesses the viewpoint from the Lagoa do Canario route. You can still make it to the viewpoint if you either park somewhere and walk a little bit or if you go through Sete Cidades back to the EN1-1A and take the EN9-1A road that's near the Miradouro da Vigia das Baleias das Feteiras. Also if the weather is bad, it can clear up later in the day so don't give up.

The view is absolutely fantastic and probably the best one in the Azores. There is a small parking nearby, as well as ruins of a then luxury hotel. At the end of the parking area, there is also a nice trail for a hike back to Sete Cidades.

This island seems to have many view points. This was yet another wonderful view we witnessed while on a jeep tour around the island.

We have traveled relatively extensively in the US, Europe, the Caribbean, and even Australia. Somehow you do not think you can see something new, yet this was so breathtakingly beautiful, even though there was a little fog. The fog made it seem like you are in the clouds.

The view is amazing but the crowds can be crazy. We were here in early May and had to park about a 1/2 km up the road from this area because there were so many people. Based on the traffic and the view, this is not our favorite view on the island but it is still one not to be missed. The cloud cover that is very unpredictable on the Azores can make this view not possible on many days so watch the weather but also know the forecast is not always that accurate. We were on the island for 5 weeks and the best gauge was to get up in the morning and look where the clouds were. If they were hanging low to the west side of the island, then don't bother coming here. Morning seems to be better for the clouds more often than not. Once here, don't forget to venture up the road (there are no sidewalks so you're there with traffic) where there are some areas to walk off the roadway and to get some fairly different views of the crater.

The name of the site Vista do Rei speaks for itself. The view of Sete Cidades from here is truly Royal. The best in San Miguel. We reached this observation deck on foot from the town of Sete Cidades, as we arrived by bus. Most tourists come in rented cars. During the tourist season, it is full of tourists, but almost everyone is jostling within 20 meters of the site. You can go down a little down the dirt road on foot: the views will be the same, and there will be few people.
