We visited this beautiful lake as part of a long hike in Sete Cidades. There are many lakes in the area. There is no one specific lake that should be the final destination, but rather plan on going on a hike that will cover a number of lakes and other site.

This is a majestic crater and it is obscured by a cedar forest. When you approach it it appears from the trees in all its magnificence. Natural beauty in abundance.

From the description in guide books and the forbidding appearance of the entrance to the estate, we thought we might have the place to ourselves. How wrong can you be? This was mid-May, hardly high-season, and it was very busy - there was even a traffic jam at the second lake. However, the lakes are pretty enough to be worth a visit, but do also continue to the viewpoint of Miradouro Pico do Paul. For us the view was partly obscured by cloud (even though we waited for several minutes to see if it would clear), but it was still worth the effort to see it.…

We went on a cloudy day and were pleasantly surprised. This place is so peaceful! Absolutely loved it. Such a shame cars are allowed up there though.

A great place to wander while exploring the west side of Sao Miguel. Good parking and a number of walking trails.
