If you have to do one view on this trip (and you should do as many as possible - the island is beautiful!) then it's this one. A tip if you're doing this and the other nearby attractions (the view point to the west, Miradouro da Vista do Rei, and also the Sete Cidades town by the lake) on foot if you are being dropped off by a taxi - there are no hiking routes north or east round the lake from this point (from what we could tell) so you need to walk along the road going west. You can walk by the side of the road in the first half, then the rest is on the road itself - it's wide enough to walk along and we found the road to be fairly quiet, but of course, be cautious all the same. There are great views along the way but consider a tour or going by car if you are expecting a dedicated trail between these two viewpoints!…

Great view over the craters and lagoons. Excellent view point setting, easy to park and spend a little time to enjoy the surroundings. You have to hike a little bit to get here, but it's absolutely worth the effort!

Go in the morning for best photographs and to get ahead of most visitors (sun at back). If you can't walk very far or are short of time, don't park in the parking lot by the main road. If the gate is open, drive in and follow the dirt road that everyone is hiking along to the very base of the ridge where the trail goes uphill to the actual "miradouro"/viewpoint. There is room for several cars there. The view is amazing. If you have bad knees, bring trekking poles. It's about 5 minutes uphill to the viewpoint, depending on your uphill capability.…
