Xwejni Salt Pans is a fun little stroll and we purchased some salt (enjoying it now whilst writing this review on fresh crusty bread with extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of their salt). Enjoy the photos attached to this review that tell the story. You'll have to buy their salt to taste it... .

These are the most dramatic salt pans we saw around here. Once found the location is an impressive stretch of road that forms an interesting short drive or walk. The pans go on for some distance and are a mix of old and new set in a geologically interesting area. Worth noting that there are public toilets at the start of the area.

That was really pretty but there’s nothing else. I mean don’t hesitate to go if you your own cars because that’s a nice activity but if you are travelling with the public bus, don’t go... That’s really far away from Victoria and there’s only one bus per hours...

Loved seeing these and the rock formations around the area. Liked the little cave we got to see and also the waterways between the pans. A beautiful sight which I really enjoyed. Recommend seeing these to get an idea of how salt is made and harvested.

Nice view but not really breathtaking. All tourists are entering while it is forbidden. So not really a pleasant place to stay unless you are interested in tourists who will do everything even forbidden things to get the best INSTA picture. Nice for a couple of minutes.

Excellent place to visit for a hour or so, but nothing else to see apart from the salt pan structures and the interesting rock formations that have been eroded tp show a great over hand on the cliffs.
Its free, parking is free, and the road is very bumpy in places. I thing the whole stretch is a good couple of miles. Views of the med and Zebbug and its cave.
Good sea breeze.
A car is a must have.

Large area of sea salt extraction. A little fun to see even if it is not a wow experience. Salt is also sold at the site if you wish to buy.
There are a few places with salt pans in Malta, so do not think it matters much which one you visit. Is my guess.

This is a small scale cottage industry. There are salt pans all along the coast but few are still actively managed. You can buy small bags of salt as a souvenir from the shop at the entrance to the rock-hewn cave where the salt is stored

These were impressive to see and after we got of the bus it was a lovely walk out to see them past the Battery/ex nightclub and along the coast to there exposed coastal location. The only slight disappointment is that it is the wrong time of year for them to be being worked.
We walked back into Marsalforn then and used the excellent local buses to continue of Gozo exploring. Remember to buy either day or the exploreflex tickets for discounted travel.

Really interesting to talk with the family, and learn the history of the salt pans. They even appeared on The Apprentice back in 2019! We went for a long walk afterwards, terrific views out to sea as well. Purchased some salt in the traditional hessian bag to take home. A worthwhile visit.
