Although it was only April, the gardens and grounds still have a lot of interest and are very pleasant to walk around. If you are just visiting the gardens then it costs £6 per car to park, the house has a separate admission charge but is well worth a visit.

Very friendly staff who love their jobs, knowledgable about Lord Byron and are happy to share that information with tourists. The House has personal belongings of Lord Byron. My child (10 years) fell in love with Byron after an amazing tour around some rooms. I definitely recommend this place for everyone.

Set in lovely grounds the Abbey has a lot to offer for all members of the family. The various gardens and lake areas are all splendidly maintained and there is often a particular theme based event taking place. Or you can simply visit for a relaxing walk followed by a visit to the deli or tea room. Also ideal for... More

Hi Domdomdomdom_13, Thanks for your rating and review. We're definitely still a hidden gem; we welcome so many local visitors who still have not discovered the charms of Newstead, but when they do they're regular visitors. We have lots of event days where we have lots going on, and those lovely quiet days when you get to chill out in... More

Hi Matthew S, Thanks for your rating and review. Great to hear your review, we think the entry fees are reasonable for what you get to see. You can spend a whole day here, especially if the weather is good and you can spent hours in the gardens, chilling out, or being inspired as Poet Byron was. Come see us... More

Grounds are well worth a visit and open much of the time. The Abbey itself is only open at weekends and school holidays so we were lucky as it was Easter. Lot more to the building than we thought and obviously lots of references to Byron. very good enthusiastic guides.

We went on public transport from Sheffield on a beautiful spring Saturday. The website does not tell you that it is over a mile to walk to the Abbey from the gates but the walk is very pleasant. The gardens are not spectacular but are interesting and there are plenty of places to sit. The House (owned by Byron's family... More

Hi Bev C, Thanks for your rating and review. We checked the website and it does state there is a 20 minute walk or 1 mile distance to the House from the Main gates on the A60 road. The House is like a Tardis, everyone comments on it; so many more rooms than you think are on show. There are... More

Renewed my season ticket as enjoy walking in a safe and pleasant environment with my 14 month dog. Decided to call at cafe for a coffee which I know doesn't allow dogs and mine is too young to tie up outside. No one came outside to serve - obviously not what they do. 3 tables taken eating their own picnic.... More

Hi Tim T, Thanks for your rating and review. We remember when Paul Martin came here to look around Byron's place, he was a great fan of the furniture and Byron collections. The House is as old at the ruined church window, some parts dating back 850 years!! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the gardens too, which will be... More

Every time I visit a park in Greater Nottingham it beats the previous one and we were planning to go to Newstead Abbey Park for 4 years; I really wish I went sooner this has once again beaten the last park I visited and is currently the best park I have visited. Looking at the location, it is perfect for... More
