- Tina H1 contributionFantastic experienceAn absolute must see if you’re visiting the Highlands. Watching Neil and the sheep dogs was great, we got to have a cuddle with the puppies and met the friendliest Highland cow! Will definitely visit again. I would advise emailing Neil to check there is a session when you plan to visit as it is by appointment onlyVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 25, 2024
- coteb39Nashua, New Hampshire150 contributionsDogs, sheep, lambs and a CooSuch a fun time! Neil and his sheepdogs are amazing. He showed us the commands (Lilly was not in the mood that day) and how they gather the sheep. I believe he said he had 3,000. He has a "pet" Hairy Coo, puppies and lambs we got to feed. Our bus tour got there ahead of another, but there was still plenty of room (and lambs) for all. Such a fascinating way to make a living that is sadly dying.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 28, 2024
- czihiUtica, New York289 contributionsExcellent sheep herding Demonstration. Definitely worth the stop.We stopped here on a bus tour. The guy is still giving demonstrations with how his dogs are herding sheep. Cannot say enough good things. The dogs are well trained. He also sheered a sheep and grabbed the sheep with the staff of his cane over the horns and had the sheep down to cut off the wool. Way cool. You can also feed the baby lambs. Well worth the stop.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 2, 2024
- Trail1998Clarksville, Tennessee115 contributionsFantastic demonstration! This place is not to be missed! Watching Neil do a demonstration is gaining the benefit of a lifetime of experience working with sheep and dogs. It was so informative and it was wonderful to watch the human relationship with the animals. Highly recommend this tour. Please book ahead!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 13, 2024
- Beverley M42 contributionsDon’t miss this! The sheepdog demonstration at Leault Farm in Kincraig was an absolute highlight for the whole family. We watched the dogs heard, got to shear the sheep, bottle feed the lambs and cuddle with the collie pups. The farmer was very interesting, witty and brilliant with both adults and kids. He is clearly well loved by the animals, even Sadie the friendliest highland cow who lounges amongst the visitors to watch the demonstration! I couldn’t recommend this more. Very relaxed, well managed and you never feel rushed or under time pressure. would definitely return. Thanks Neil!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 12, 2024
- James WAnnapolis, Maryland37 contributionsLoved the DogsGot here early for the 3pm show. Loved meeting the .some of the dogs on arrival. Neil’s demonstration is spot on. Seeing him individually work and call the dogs was special. As owners of a border collie this was a very rewarding experience. The pups were special. Nice to get cup close with the sheep and a highland cow also. Well worth the time and price point.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 6, 2024
- Pioneer0858381161037 contributionsVery InterestingLoved this. Ross is friendly and informative. Dogs are so well-trained, yet super friendly when not "working" the show. Interesting to see the older professional dogs, the younger ones still learning and the pups. Worth the drive and the cost to experience something realVisited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 15, 2024
- Anna A7 contributionsIncredible dogs, unforgettable experienceAn unforgettable experience. The command, intelligence, and control exhibited by the dogs during this demonstration was absolutely astounding. The shepherd was funny and informative and more than happy to answer any questions. We got to shear sheep, learn about the tools of the trade, the state of business at large…. and as a bonus play with a pack of sheepdog puppies!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 24, 2024
- Jim DHarker Heights, Texas25 contributionsBorder collies at Leault FarmA visit to see the working sheepdogs (Border Collies) at Leault Farms was a fantastic, one-of-a-kind experience! Neil Leault is part of a dying way... himself saying he & his brother were the only ones left out of 60 sheepherders who worked sheep with dogs in the area. He enthusiiastically demonstrated their herding skills under whistle and voice commands with five dogs working a large herd of sheep. Don't miss seeing this during any visit to Scotland!Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten October 9, 2024
- Rhonda B1,569 contributionsFabulous experience!Even though many of our tour group from Australia were familiar with sheep and sheepdogs, most of us had never been quite so close to working dogs as we were on Neil's farm. His demonstration of his dogs' abilities was amazing, and we even had a bonus 9.5 week old puppy he was training that we could hold and pat. Some of us got to help hand shear a sheep and feed some (very big) lambs. He shared lots of information and gave us all an experience to remember for a very long time. Highly recommend.Visited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten October 17, 2024

Everything the reviewers have said is on the mark. We've been to sheepdog demos in New Zealand which were outstanding, but Neil's dogs and demonstation far surpassed. Neil was extremely responsive to our emails asking about times, availability, etc. Anita, the friendly hairy cow, was an unexpected bonus.

We stopped here with our tour group and noticed that other cars were pulling in as well, so it is open to the public, but I am not sure if reservations are required. Neil was amazing. He explained how the dogs gather up the sheep and the various whistle sounds used that identify the dogs and what they should be doing. He also demonstrated how to shear a sheep and allowed members of our tour group to take a turn (supervised by Neil at all times). We were then given milk in bottles to give to the babies. We really enjoyed this event and would recommend it especially for those that have families with children.

We absolutely loved our visit to the Leault Farm to see the working sheepdogs. The shepherd was funny and engaging and the dogs were really smart and good at their job. We greeted the dogs, saw a few demos, learned/saw how sheep are sheared, bottle fed the highland cow, and even got to play with the new puppies. Everyone really enjoyed the experience. The only reason we did not give it 5* was that the experience was quite expensive (20 pounds per person).

A deeply unpleasant experience. Neil the shepherd who runs this is an angry and confused man. Be prepared to be regaled with his latest unhinged GB News-inspired conspiracy theories whilst he is talking to the gathered crowd. He spouted his anti-climate change, anti-vax and anti-"woke" agenda (his words) which totally detracted from anything he had to say about his work. Said he wants the local population to stay poor to make them work harder. He really needs to educate himself. Has a nerve charging people - I asked for our money back but he refused. As for the sheepdog experience itself, totally under whelming.

We can't recommend this working sheepdog demonstration highly enough. The dogs were amazing and the handler, Neil, showed off their abilities in an enjoyable and accessible way. It was not easy to book this experience or determine when it was open. We had an email exchange with Neil and were fortunate to be available when he planned to conduct the demonstration. If you're near Kincraig and love dogs, don't miss this activity.

Drove 3.5 hours from Berwick to come to the 10am show. Left a lot of cushion but used up all of it between tractors, commuters, construction and showed up at 10 on the nose. Gate was closed and locked, show clearly started early for a big tour group and even though we pre-booked he started without us. Called 3 times per the instructions on the gate, no response. Haven't encountered unprofessionalism like this in a long time.

This was a highlight of our 2-week stay in Scotland. Watching the dogs work was incredible and Neil provided an excellent explanation of how the dogs work and was happy to answer any questions people had about herding and sheepdogs. A huge highlight was being able to feed a calf, lambs and sheer a sheep. The dogs are friendly and will approach you as you arrive. Please remember to bring the appropriate amount of cash for the demonstration as there is no ATM on-site (it is a working farm, after all)!

If you anywhere near the area you should make plans to see this sheep herding operation that is run by Neil. It was very entertaining to see how these sheep dogs can collect the sheep and keep them corralled so that they can be trimmed. Neil has done an amazing job training his sheep dogs. This is an attraction that should not be missed by anyone of any age.

Absolutely amazing experience. Neil was informative, invited questions (we all had many) and watching him give a full range of commands to his dogs was mesmerizing. I a h sound, each word, every gesture has a special meaning. And he’s trained his team of dogs who responded like a choreographed movement of wonder. Feeding the Highland cow named Anita was a special bonus, along with holding the shears as Neil guided shearing a sheep. Absolutely a highlight of our tour of Scotland!!

Neil is so knowledgeable about raising and caring for sheep and his sheepdogs. It was fascinating to watch the dogs work and learn how he communicates with them. Our kids loved petting the dogs and the lambs and Anita the cow. If you’re on the west side of the Cairngorms definitely stop by!

Hi, is the show on during winter time ? Would it still be 4pm ?

We went in late September. I would contact the owners for that information.

Yes, the working dog show is 7gbp per adult. The show is definitely worth the cost and the drive to this beautiful area. They were so open and welcoming, answering questions even after the demonstration was over.

If you don’t have a car how can you walk here from the local town? Or is there a bus tour that will take you?
Written July 11, 2019
I was on a Trafalgar tour and Neil's sheep farm and his beautiful Border collies are part of the Best of Scotland trip.
I agree with calling the farm to find alternate transportation.
Well worth the visit, even in the rain!!!

I am planning on visiting Scotland in May 2019. Would love to bring my daughter to this. Does anyone know if the Leault Farm has demonstrations the first two weeks of May? I tried emailing them but never heard back. Thank you.
