The first Open House of the season did the National Trust proud today. We had a lovely afternoon and look forward to visiting more Open Houses. Tyrol Cot is off the beaten tourist track but well worth a visit being the home of Sir Grantely Adams and his son Tom Adams, both Premiers of Barbados. It's not a Barbadian great... More

It is extremely disappointing. Apparently now owned by the National Trust (being a member in England, I hope I have got this wrong) and it is a wreck! The signage is appalling, the gardens an unkempt mess and the house closed. Apparently the woman who usually shows it wasn't there today! Great! The so called Heritage Village is deserted with... The house was quite interesting, but has been neglected & is in much need of some TLC. Everything was covered in dust & grime & although the lady on reception was friendly & welcoming, there was no guided tour or information. The surrounding chattel village is no longer used by artisans & craftsmen (apparently they haven't been there since 2006)... More

Good tour for anyone looking for something a little off the beaten path. There are quite a few chattel houses here, for anyone who likes the traditional Bajan architectural style as well as Sir Grantley Adams, the first premier of Barbados', home. Its a quick tour, hour at most, very nice home and enthusiastic guide who gives a good, concise... More

The Tyrol Cot Village has one of the most intriguing historic stories that gives the visitors the respect for the people lived in the homes on the property and those who were enslaved by the slave owners. The live experience brings the visitors to a since awe or maybe pain for those who once lived there.

Stopped here during a cruise tour. The tour guide was extremely knowledgable. I agree with a previous reviewer that had we just walked around it would have been disappointing. Her stories and history were thought provoking and you could visualize what she saying as you observed the buildings. It is hard to believe that it was not so long ago... More

Once we managed to find it we were made very welcome by Jonelle who did an excellent guided tour. As we are UK National Trust Members we had free entry but felt moved to make a donation. Rum and fruit punch was available. The total lack of signage visible from the road made it almost impossible to find and we... More

Tyrol Cot is the former home of Sir Grantley Adams and his family and also houses a collection of old chattel houses. The main house has some antique furniture and mementoes from the family, but the beautiful nineteenth century house is now showing signs of its age. There certainly needs to be some investment in this building, before more damage... More

Once we'd managed to find Tyrol Cot (not that well signposted, even for Barbados), it was a really well spent hour or so. The building is looking a little worn down, and could use some money spent on it really. We were the only ones there and had the tour with guide - she was brilliant. She was very knowledgable...
