About
Nestled in the spa town of Saturnia, this series of waterfalls cascade sulfur-rich water from natural hot springs over rocky formations into terraced travertine pools. The water temperature hovers around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, comfortable all year round, and particularly enjoyable in winter. The stunning beauty of the falls and surrounding fauna make this spot worth stopping by, even if you’re not interested in having a soak. Cascate del Mulino is free to enter and immensely popular—arrive at daybreak if you want a corner to yourself. There are changerooms, paid parking, and a small snack bar serving refreshments. – Tripadvisor

If you’re basing your expectations on idyllic Instagram shots then you might be disappointed, at least for the time being.
The land immediately surrounding cascades appears to be under development, having been recently churned up by diggers. There is also a lot of litter and erosion of the ground left by other visitors. In short, it’s not paradise.
I have no idea if the aims of the development are to eventually improve the appearance of the area, and some people might worry that the cascades will lose their authenticity. The fact is though that the falls are clearly already suffering from the number of visitors as it is, and so it seems wise for better facilities to be provided. The only other solution to preserve places like this is for tourists like me to stop visiting - perhaps we should!
Other than that it is quite amazing to see and bathe in hot water gushing down cascades in the middle of the countryside. The walk up to the village of Saturnia is also pleasant.
I’d recommend going at sunrise if you want to avoid other people. Even in January by the time I left at around 9.30am more and more people were starting to arrive.

First of all I have to underline the fact that for free Thermal baths, the water is not so bad. And you also have free parking.
For all the rest: people and place I would say a big No NO. Is an open free space for everybody including animals that go inside the water. When I went, it was also full of drunk and strange people, I would not recommend this place for a solo visit or family with children.

Cascate del Mulino in Saturnia, Providence of Grosseto in Tuscany is a rare hidden gem. From a distance it is beautiful to see. From within it is an exciting and unusual experience. Two waterfalls flow into natural travertine pools which fall into more rounded pools creating a cascade. The water is warm and rich in sulfur and minerals and supposedly good to bath in.

I will say that this was my least favorite part of my trip to Italy. The Saturnia Thermal Springs look amazing but up close, it is filled with a bunch of tiny red worms and an extremely rocky floor that was painful to walk on. The big rocks were slimy and slippery with moss. You definitely need water shoes here. I stayed in the falls part of the thermal springs instead of the pool part so I wouldn't see the red worms floating in the water. The rushing water wouldn't allow them to be able to land on you or your swimwear. (Staying in the falls also meant staying in the blaring sun so I got toasted.) Everyone else was frolicking in the water and ignoring the red worms. I know they are considered harmless but I was grossed out. I kept thinking about what if there get in your ear, in your hair, or some other body crevice. I later went to Google to learn more and also found out I am not the only person that was not feeling this thermal spring. The only good part of this stop was that the water wasn't too hot because Italy was already 90+ every day I was there. The water is more bath water temp. I would not recommend this thermal spring. After going to hot springs in Iceland, Costa Rica, St. Lucia, etc., this was a huge letdown and not worth the 2.5-hour drive to get there.

The hot springs here boast everything you could want from a hot spring. Exceptionally beautiful, very warm and definitely cascading. I would recommend bringing flip flops or swimming shoes as the rocks here are very sharp. Also, do not be afraid of the red larva. As well, we had not been aware we needed to pay for parking and there was quite a walk afterwards to the springs however, it was worth it. There is a little café here with the freshest pastries I've ever eaten. It was wonderful also incredibly affordable! I have never seen such a beautiful natural occurrence. Definitely a must see!

It's a really nice place: while parking is not free, it's more than warranted as the park is free and well maintained.
The hot water sprints are great, although be aware they are hot (duh!) so it is not ideal going during summer. It is still a pleasant experience, if you can overlook the mass of people (very popular destination) and the loads of fauna (worms, insects...) you are bound to find during this season.

It was worth a two day trek to find this gem in Italia! Like the cathedrals this natural spa was decorated by God in natural beauty. It’s supposed to be open 24/7 year round but finding our way in wasn’t easy since the main tourist shack was closed this season. The Italians didn’t let that get in their way so we took a local tip and followed them to the baths. The water wasn’t as hot as expected yet warm enough to keep the late December chill off. I worried unnecessarily about rinsing the sulfurous residue but not uncomfortable at all. Fabulous experience especially since the crowds were at a minimum.

We arrived at 2pm on a Wednesday in late September thinking that it would be unbearably crowded. While there were many people it wasn’t to the point where you couldn’t find a spot for your group to enjoy. The waters are warm but not hot. There are these tiny worms swimming. They don’t seem harmful... overall it was worth the two hour drive to get there.

We had booked a SPA resort nearby and made it a point to go to the springs. The sulfuric water does not allow you to stay too long in it. The crowds in the various ponds and/or surrounding the ponds or waiting to come in; do not allow you to enjoy the warm spring waters as all comers want a spot … The springs are worth going to if you are in the area. We only went once during our two days two nights spent in the area. Of course the sulfuric water can cure various skin diseases etc.

One of our party absolutely loved being in 38 degree water, in 46 degree air temperatures, but two of us weren't so impressed. Despite this, the place is really beautiful, and surprisingly accessible. Would love to visit in winter! Definitely worth going to, even if it is 46 degrees. Bring thongs or booties because the rocks are sharp, and in the summer they can get far too hot to walk on.

Ciao, volevo porre una domanda. Ho pensato di portare una mia amica che si sposa in queste fantastiche cascate di Saturnia. Mi sapete consigliare se nelle vicinanze c’è poi qualche discoteca da poter fare serata? Il periodo sarà all’incirca fine maggio.

Grazie mille
