As the first wine and brewing estate in the southern hemisphere, we run a small but growing micro brewery, water bottling plant, winery and vineyard situated in the Western Cape of South Africa. We have much to offer, not only to the beer and wine enthusiast, but to those just interested in visiting our beautiful country estate near Stanford in the shadow of the Klein Rivier mountains. Here you will find out about our exceptional beer, our country estate, our brewery. As of September 2015 the restaurant is under new management called "Birkenhead Galley" separately listed in Trip advisor by the new owners. Come and enjoy our delicious food and freshly brewed beer, and visit our vineyard and winery where we produce Walker Bay Vineyards wines.

Beautiful setting on the Kleinrivier. Food good, but not great. Beer decent, but craft beer has come a long way in the last 5 to 10 years and there are a lot of good beer out there these days. Their beer tasting setup is very...More

Taking clients to the beer tasting, there's no fuss or detailed explanations. It's uncomplicated just sitting down to the brewery's six best beers and stout, with a written explanation on the tray provided explaining what there is. Good fun for the true beer lover who...More

This is the Stanford version ( as opposed to Birkenhead House hotel in Hermanus) and Birkenhead point/lighthouse etc - all named after the troopship which went aground in the 19th century. Anyway, the brewery produces a range of ales and lagers named, yes you've guessed...More

Amazing afternoon spent at one of the nicest venues in Stanford. Live music, nice vibe and FANTASTIC yellow tail. Best wishes for a very successful season.

Apart from the beautiful surroundings. This brewery has seen Better days . Definitely worth a quick beer tasting just to take in the view... then move along.. you can find better wine, service and food at any of the surrounding farms.

Every time we visit Hermanus we drive to Birkenhead brewery, to while away a couple of hours siting in the beautiful garden, supping a few beers, which with the addition of laughing croc now has a great beer list. Wines are pretty good too!!

I have to be fair and say that 10 of us visited here for lunch on what was a cold and wet day. We had visited it previously some years ago and whilst the food was never that great the beers were. Whilst it was...More
