About
Lord's Wines was established in 2006 where viticulturist, Jacie Oosthuizen, turned his love for wine and cricket into a cellar. The whole concept is based on the Lord's cricket ground in London. High up on the northern slopes of the mountains surrounding Robertson, in the lush Mc Gregor valley, you will stumble across a gravel road that will lead you on the road to nowhere. At the end of this striking rainbow, you will find Lord’s Wines, cradled amidst fynbos and Proteas. At 500m above sea level, where the vineyards are the highest in the Robertson Valley, a breathtaking panoramic view made the call to establish Lord’s. This cooler climate and real terroir, where nature’s bounty has chosen high altitude for cooler temperatures, where sun, water, soil and slopes are melded, work in perfect harmony to produce cultivars like Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay.

On a drive out of McGregor and after travelling along a dirt road for about 10 kilometers, we came around a bend and found this oasis. It is a winery with a restaurant. We were staying in McGregor so did not need accommodation but it did look very nice. We were looked after superbly by Chandre and, if I owned Lords I would also look after her very well before she gets poached by a McGregor restaurant!! In a dry, dusty environment, I was reminded of the greenery at Lords cricket ground in London- a place I love to visit! This place is well worth a visit and I recommend it highly. TonyC Howick

The setting of the estate is beautiful, 10kms outside of McGregor. Pity the food was as insipid as it was, we could have been eating cardboard. We ordered 3 dishes to share. Taco's, no mango & coriander salsa or chili & a waft of avo crema. The spicy beef salad, had no mint, peanuts or Thai style dressing on it, the beef was not rare. Thai evokes taste of lemon grass, chili, soy sauce, green or red curry flavours all missing. The Parma Ham pizza was bland as bland could be :( If there was half a fig on the pizza it was a lot, at least the Parma Ham was plentiful. The descriptions on the menu did not follow through to the food presented. Absolutely tasteless. Obviously the chef (sic) had no access to either salt/pepper or and kind of herbs or spices. We did make our waitress aware of all this, we asked to speak to a manager, apparently non were on duty. When the bill was presented the food had been voided, nice gesture, but that's not the point. We didn't go out looking for a free meal. We wanted a great relaxing lunch. Would I recommend the place - no never.

An unexpected delight! We called in to Lords as we had seen the signs at the end of the lovely rural village of McGregor (lovely places to eat and explored) for a wine tasting. We met two fantastic staff (Chandre & Mandall) who couldn’t have been more charming, or helpful. The wines were great and Chandre knew all about them, and they shared information about the estate and area. We will be back!

My daughter Chelsea was married At Lords Winery on the 24th of February 2024. What a magnificent venue for a romantic wedding. Justin was an absolute pleasure to deal with and made the venue available to us to decorate 2 days prior to the wedding. The food was delicious - in particular the sticky pulled pork starter, the Roast Lamb mains and the Pavlova dessert. We stayed at Singleton and Blue Crane from the Thursday to the Monday and made memories that will last forever. The views are breathtaking. Thank you so much Justin, Jacques and Peter. We will be back !

Lord's Wines is at the end of the road, literally. We were attending the Wacky Wine Weekend in the Breede River valley (Robertson area) and were tired of the crowds, so we chose to visit wineries that were out of the way. Lord's is 10 km past McGregor on a dirt road, but the welcome given by the winemaking family is warm and friendly and makes up for the travel time. They make two delicious MCC bubblies (one from pinot noir grapes which is the palest pink I've seen, and the other a chardonnay/pinot noir blend). They also make an excellent shiraz; given the knowledge and passion of the winemaker, I'm not surprised. It's a pity that the valley looks so desolate - although Lord's is fairly new, I do think the estate would benefit from planting some hardy trees. As it is, not many visitors would be inspired to take photographs of the scenery.....

We enjoyed the wine, food and service.
Waiter was amazing - he really knew his stuff. Definitely worth the short drive off the main road

Worth the 10 kms drive along a gravel drive from McGregor to find such a beautiful setting for Lord's Wines, The family run farm named after the famous Lords cricket ground in St John's Wood London. Excellent meat & cheese board was a perfect choice for some excellent wine tastings. Our favorite being the Rose MCC

This is a funny spot slightly out of town. They have a variety of white and red wines to taste as well as MCC. The man giving the tasting was really helpful and friendly and made the tasting that much more enjoyable. One of their MCC's has won awards although we were unable to taste it as they only produced 900 bottles. They have a great Chardonnay and an interesting Pinot Noir. If you have the time head up that way however if you are pressed for time I would say it's not worth the effort.
As a side note although they have ramps for Wheelchair access I would not say this place is wheelchair friendly. the main ramp is really steep and the other two are right near the stairs and could easily result in a persons wheelchair falling off.

Some tastings are so snobby...not here! One of the young vinters (you'll want to watch out for this young man's first wines in a few years!!) gave us a super tour...very knowledgeable and very passionate about wine! You don't have to know anything about wine to come here, but I guarantee you will not leave without having learning something useful! The MCC is fantastic!

What a lovely experience it was to taste wines in such a beautiful setting. The wines are of a very high quality and the staff are well trained. A cheese platter is also served and currently an extension of the tasting area is under construction for an even better experience. If you ever visit McGregor, take the 11 km drive out of the town and visit this hidden gem
