An interesting park which protects an outstanding natural environment
The Marine Park protects a large stretch of sea around Alonissos and the area North-East and East of Alonissos, including the adjoining islands of Kyra Panagia, Piperi, Gioura, Psathoura, Skantzoura and Peristera. As a consequence, fish and other marine fauna is extremely abundant and the water is very clean and transparent by Mediterranean standards (of course, it is always possible to see some garbage but that is unavoidable as filth travels everywhere, including open oceans and Antarctica). The signature task of the park is the protection of the monk seals that live in the area. Moreover, the park also offers some protection to the land environment of the islands included in the park. The park is one of the good reasons to visit Alonissos and thanks to it snorkelling, diving and even simple boat trips are extremely rewarding; on top of that, the good condition of the surrounding sea enhances even more the beauty of the land environment of Alonissos. I recommend if possible a money donation to support the activities of the marine park

Fabulous Island for a Magical Visit
My stay on Alonissos was May through July, 2023. It is a stunning Greek island. A Marine park for the protection of monk seals. And it’s a great place to take a spectacular vacation. There are pristine beaches, the port area bustling with shops and tavernas, Old Town at the top of the island, and many gorgeous places to enjoy. I’ll let some photos say a few thousand more words!

Wonderful days sailing on the Gorgona (Mermaid) with Capt. Pakis and his team
Amazing trip, left at 10am, 2 swims then travelled to St Anna’s Monastery, where the priest offers a tour/talk. Food amazing. Another swim then arrived back at port at 5:30pm. Saw dolphins…..amazing. Worth noting that everything is included in your price, food and admission into the monastery. Also Capt. Pakis has to pay a lot of port charges these are all included in your price. You can of course request a private charter but then it would cost you more. The boat has plenty of space, we had around 15 people on board and it was fine. Also Capt. Pakis is not responsible for the weather and whether you see any marine wildlife, namely dolphins. You will normally see the dolphins later in the afternoon 3 ish, but you need to keep your eyes peeled. Highly recommend.

This trip is fine if you are happy with a handful of stops for a swim! Lunch was great and the wine erm... flowed! A stop at the blue cave and monastery didn't happen due to sea conditions (?) sadly. No marine life was seen. The Capt of the boat is a lovely entertaining man with many a story to tell. But the trip was overlong and expensive. If this kind of trip floats your boat (!) then fair enough.

Just spent the day visiting the Marine Park on board the Gorgona, with Capt Pakis and his small crew.
We left Patitiri harbour at 10am, returning 6pm on the dot. Aboard the traditional Gorgona were about 20 of us. Ticket price of 70 euros which included a traditional lunch of souvlaki, bread, salads and soft drinks / wine. It also included the entrance fee to the marine park itself.
We had five stops all told. Three of them to swim and we also saw the blue cave.
Captain Pakis is an experience marine expert and local historian have grown up on the island and supported many of the scientific marine biology expeditions over the years. He is a natural raconteur, super interesting, kind and friendly. Happy to share his experience, his particular philosophy, his stories of growing up seventy years ago on Alonissos.
The highlight for me was the visit to the monastery on Kyra Panagia. The scenery, the setting, the bay, the vertical stone steps (awesome and quite scary), the buildings, beautiful frescos, artefacts, the medical olive press and the fascinating talk from the Abbot,
Plus the lovely people on the boat who graciously shared their holiday experiences.
It was a day to remember for a very long time. We didn’t see much wildlife, but we shared stories, listened to wise elders, learnt from people who have dedicated their lives to the islands.
Thoroughly recommend it. But do go with expectation and you will be well rewarded.

Memorable two full days of sea adventure on the Gorgona with Captain Pakis, crew and wonderful tourists. Weather was beautiful sunny, calm seas with delightful scenery, swimming options surrounded by beautiful scenery that captivated my senses enough to book a second tour the following day (one day was not enough!). I opted to replicate another ‘ SEAce’ sensory wonderful experience unsurpassed in my extensive travels in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Maldives, French Polynesia, Florida Keys to name a few. The first day was a wonderful and memorable delight to the senses; the second day was to integrate Captain Pakis interesting humorous unforgettable narrative of the Sporades, Marine Park, Monastery again surrounded by beautiful scenery, simply magical. I love the ocean and most of my travels have been to oceanic destinations, I rate Captain Pakis with the highest ratings for the best sea adventure, to be included in your visit to Alonissos.

The trip to the sea park with Captain Pakis was great!!! He is a true performer, giving all the info about the island and the park in English, while making it light with some historical and cultural jokes! The boat is big enough and also has an upper deck where not so many sit and the view is AMAZING. We visited Agios Dimitrios beach on Alonissos, Kyra Panagia island and the monastery and Peristera island.
The trip lasts about 8 hours and the sun is strong. The meal was ok. The trip costs, 50-65 per person at least. After all of that time on the boat one feels extremely calm!

Did quite a lot of research on boat trips as wanted to see the wildlife in the Marine Park and chose this one as the captain was supposed to be instrumental in setting up the marine park (I’ve lived in the Galapagos and now live in Cornwall so this was my interest!) and also where we were staying recommended him. Was really disappointed he didn’t say much more than I’d read about already and wouldn’t engage in conversation at all with us (mum and 2 daughters) although he did with the dads… 😊 and we saw no seals, dolphins or turtles. In fact when we were on the trip he said there was a 3 mile exclusion zone from the area the seals are so basically it’s unlikely you’ll see one at all. If you’re looking for wildlife don’t waste your money - we paid €60 each + €5.50 each to the marine park (which was only mentioned once we’d booked). If you want a nice day out on a boat with swimming and sites thrown in you’ll enjoy it I expect!

€60 for 7 hours going round islands (which all look the same) and swim stops. You won't see any wildlife or the seals. Water and coffee only you have to take your own food (don't be good by old reviews quoting food). Captain was a really interesting guy but honestly the most boring boat trip we've ever done.
