This drive is well worth it if you're in the area - the pass is only around 14km long and there are a number of view points along the way. We were staying in Barrydale so did the route both ways and it's impressive with craggy mountains and a deep ravine. At it's height the pass is around 1000ft. We... More

We travelled through this pass from Barrydale to the coast early in the morning - the rock formations looked spectacular in the dawn light and we had the road to ourselves! The road surface was in very good condition and the recommended speed caution signs were invaluable, especially on the descent! We stopped at the viewsites which offered safe off-road... More

The entire drive from Swellendam to Barrydale has a great Langeberg landscape. But the pass is the highlight of it. We even spotted some baboons lingering at a picnic spot next to the road.

This is a very pretty pass, not a technical pass at all that requires any fancy driver abilities. It is easy and pleasant and very pretty, even for drivers like me who have just basic driving skills. We did not drive the full 40 something kilometers to Swellendam. We just enjoyed the first few kilometers from Barrydale and back again.... More

From the small historic hamlet of Suurbraak through to Barrydale, the Tradouw pass winds though exquisite mountains towering above a picturesque river below. I think it ois the best place in South Africa to see the proteas and ericas when in season. Don't forget to stop at the "Drupkelder@" Dripping Cave"....What a beautiful view.

Coming along the whole of the Klein Karoo leads you to the Tradou Pass - which is a particularly scenic spot where you might rightly choose to stretch your legs and have a look around. Worth it.

This is one of the best mountain passes on the Garden Route northern part called the Langeberg. A reputed engineer has made a real masterpiece still in use over a century afterwards. One guy jokingly said it means Women's pass in old Khoi language. It is over 15 km long and has magnificent view points, but be careful on the... More

I just love this 17km scenic drive linking the towns of Barrydale and Swellendam (going through Suurbraak first). It travels through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery. On maps and GPS this pass is designated as route R324. Make the effort and stop at some of the amazing view points... the best most probably opposite Die Drupkelder (a small... More

Enjoyed this route from Swellendam over to the Robertson Wine Valley and Montagu. The Tradouw Pass we had big expectations of, but while it was attractive it wasn't wow or hugely dramatic. Lovely to see the mountain flora in spring colour.
