Nice little monastery worth the stop if you are in the area. Photography is allowed, though remember to be mindful of any services taking place.

Cozia Monastery is a medieval monastic complex, placed in Calimanesti city, on the side of Olt River. It is The Old Mircea regnant foundation, it is extended and refurbished during the time, from Middle Age till now. It is orthodox religion.
It can be visited all days, you can pray, buy religious objects.
The monastery is surrounded by very special views, mountains, river, forests. There are many restaurants nearby, also an aqua park with thermal water, SPA.

It is one of the most beautiful monastery in this part of Romania. It is really impressive how the orthodox ritual was kept and the architecture also. by the other hand, you can find here a piece of the Romanian history.

The Eastern Orthodox Cozia Monastery was erected between 1387-1392. It is the most visited monastery in Romania and has some of the richest history. It is certainly worth having a look at it if you are travelling through that area.

It is the best example of Byzantine architecture in Romania (build before the fall of Constantinople) and a burial place of the most important ruler in Wallachian history Mircea the Elder (grandfather of Vlad the Impaler "Dracula"). Must-see while driving through the valley of Olt.

It is always a pleasure to stop to this beautiful monastery and take a breath of fresh air. History and nature combine in here. The Olt river in the back of the monastery completes the scene of peace and silence.

The monastery is very old and pearched on the banks of the Olt river. Take time to go through the old kitchens to the walk on the riverbanks and note the high water level markers on the. walls.
Leave a prayer wish with the monk in the church and they will read it daily for you: health, family , marriage are all on the wish lists of many.
There is a little shop in the rear with postcards, pictures, magnets and books. It is not as large as the one across the street but it supports the monks living here.
Check out the museum of relics and art from other monasteries that have been renovated or destroyed in the area. Some of this stuff is v.v.v old and show art of another era.
A great plus is the fresh water well( do not drop coins in it as it is considered by the Monks as making donations to pagan water gods and they do not use the coins from the well. So you are not making a donation to the monastery after all) to fill up water bottles and the modern clean and plentiful ( 10 stalls) toilets across the highway. Great potty stop!
