I visited this park to bird watch. Get there early and beat the crowds. Opens at 7 and I got there a bit to. Get a guide right outside the park. You won't see anything otherwise. I highly recommend a guide by the name of Franklin Sanchez (8-337-8527.) I just met him outside the park and what a find. I... More

We had a bit of an issue finding the park. Once we got going in the right direction, we did pass the park once before we realized that we had gone to far. Our GPS did not know where to find the park, nor did google maps. The signs to the park are a little small, but we eventually found... More

Firstly, our visit was only the success that it was because we had an excellent guide, Enrico. We met him at 7am just as the park was opening. During the next 3.5 hours we walked about 6kms with him and saw a lot of interesting birds, animals, insects and plant life. Enrico was passionate about this park and it showed... More

Learnt a great deal about trees and plants, as well as insects, birds and mammals. The highlight was seeing the Macaws flying in and out of their nest. Not an arduous walk. Would definitely recommend a guide.

The Carara National Park has an easy circular trail that leads you through some really interesting secondary forest. Best to get here earlier in the day to catch birds or animals up and about before the midday heat gets too much. I would also recommend the services of a guide. We visited twice as we were staying close by -... More

Being a German/Canadian couple we booked Maurice for a full day birding tour of Carara after reading all the positive Tripadvisor reviews in German and English. Always amazing what a good guide can spot which we never would have seen. Even at the park entrance we had some fantastic birds to see in Maurice's telescope. We went in 3 different... More

We toured Carrara with Juan Castro today and it was excellent. I would honestly say that touring the park without a guide might not be interesting but so many of the common things have interesting stories when told by an expert. Juan is very knowledgable and a nice guy " born to be a guide" in his own words. He... More

We took a tour with Freddie. He was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We arrived at 7:30am. It cost us $25 per person plus a tip to Freddie and a tip to the guy at the parking lot area. We saw lots of amazing birds and monkeys. Easy tour - where sneakers, bug spray and bring water.

Not what I expected. $10 entrance wasn't bad but paying too much for a taxi round trip just to have walk through jungle wasn't worth it. Good for hiking. Cud spot a sparrow, few butterflies and that's all. For me it wasn't a good idea, others might find it great.
