Very interesting pools with natural vulcanic hot water. Very well organized with clean showers and changing rooms. Owners should intruduce a limit to the guests at the same time. Some pools were too crowded.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that these pools were so well maintained and attended. There were changing rooms, on-site security and the water felt fresh and clean. Staff was a little abrupt, but overall a good experience.

A little pond of warm natural water (over 50* C), to relax your feet. Fortunately there is the cold water of the river running at the side to balance things!

Is it possible to find a pool away from people/the masses? Or is it one big free for all? Thanks

Several pools to choose from... but if crowded can't avoid having people in your pool, as every pool is shared. You can see if it is very crowded by seeing the amount of cars parked outside the facility.

I found the cooler pool at the end of the path less crowded, it's quite pretty with a natural waterfall at one end and warm water spouts if you find the pool too cool.
Hi Emjay - Just curious, what hotel did you stay in at Furnas? We are on Sao Miguel for three days without a rental car but will have a tour guide to explore the island for the first two days. We are trying to find any region on Sao Miguel that allows exploring on foot from the hotel and it sounds like you were able to explore in Furnas. Any advice that you could provide would be much appreciated.
