Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

Not just she,the two of us in our thirties we really enjoy it. With a baby it is a short visit but it was such a good way to spend time in shade. Also their kitchen is very nice.

Excellent aquarium featuring everything from the tiny clown fish which they have managed to successfully breed to the impressive variety of larger fish and sharks in the main tank. We worth a visit.

A much more involving and interesting aquarium than is first apparent when you arrive. There is an impressive collection of fish, sharks and other creatures. The restaurant looked and smelled very good although we didn't actually go in. There is a lovely beach which we...More

I expected a little more from this aquarium. There are a little species of sea animals. My son was excited at sharks and jellyfish but he was sad when it ended so quickly.

It's quite interesting if you have never visited a big aquarium before because it's rather small. It is well laid out and the tanks allow great visibility. We enjoyed the ice cream in the restaurant next to the Aquarium and then we walked to the...More

We are divers and we're happy to see the fish of Crete you can't see in the sea anymore as the Mediterranean is so fished out. It's a small aquarium but they do also have fish and larger Pelagius as well as smaller fish. Signs...More

Read some mixed reviews on TA before attending, so wasn't sure what to expect. We visited with two young kids, and loved our time here. 90 minutes was enough to enjoy this beautifully presented aquarium, and its nice collection of sea life. Some of the...More

This aquarium is OK for what it has, which is not huge. Context is important here I guess. Seems that a place so close to the Med Sea would be HUGE but not so much. The displays were nicely done and my kids enjoyed it....More

Really enjoyed our visit to CretAquarium! There are so many species of fish (sharks, groupers, bream, bass etc), octopus, mussels, molluscs, turtles etc. Some are indigenous to the Med and can be seen in the wild whilst out snorkelling, and others are from different seas...More
