Having been informed this attraction was not to be missed, we took a taxi who waited for us at no extra cost (£20 round trip). The entrance fee was expensive £30 for two. There was a guide who was waiting for tourists, and she was also expensive, although we did bargain a little and she reduced her price. Don't bother with a guide, because all she did was walk very slowly explaining the trees and foliage, arriving at a stand with some coco de mer examples to pick up, and all the information she gave us was written there anyway. Vallée de Mai is a nice forest to go hiking in. However, the tour guides cost an additional 50 EUR for one hour (entry is about 350 SCR). The tour was ok, however we learned more about the Coco de Mer at Fond Ferdinand. We did see the rare endemic black parrot thanks to the guide though, but overall it wasn’t worth the money. I‘d recommend Fond Ferdinand over Vallée de Mai. …
