Relatively easy gorge walk, but need to be surefooted.

Pleasant downhill gorge walk. Good to do it early morning as it will be hot at mid-day. Lovely scenery. Peaceful.

We decided to park at point "A" a little way outside the village and save ourselves the walk to the start of the gorge. A good move as I don't think you miss much! The gorge walk is pretty well posted and well worth doing and pretty easy taxing (unlike the frankly terrifying trek through the Mesonas gorge above Kavousi!).... More

We went as a day trip, from the bottom up and back out again, and it was really good fun. You can imagine hiding in those caves and how arduous it must've been to stash the dead bodies in any of them. There is good food and a nice beach as your reward at the end, and even in October... More

Challenging but definitely worth it. We drove to the top and walked down the gorge and then back again. In total it took about 2 hours 45 mins, with a slightly faster pace going back up. We set off after watching the sunrise, as cooler and less people around. Mid day sun is too hot in summer. Make sure you... More

We started our walk early in the morning and it took about 4 hours in total. A lot of goats live in the gorge. Be aware of the meaning of "Castello" - there is only great view on the top - nothing else as we expected when were climbing the mountains.

I walked with my kids (16, 16 and 10) and went up from Katos Zakros to Zakros. We did not make the loop trek (for this you need to turn when you reach the entry A, as shown on the map in Katos Zakros) as my kids were tired, mostly because of the heat. Indeed, the walk by itself is... More

This walk can be done by inexperienced trekkers and offers stunning views along the way. There are several entrances to the gorge, the easiest one is from the main road. It is good to take your time on the well signposted path to enjoy the natural scenery, the rock formations, the flowers and bushes as well as the goats scampering... More

Had a very enjoyable walk, starting from Kato Zakros up the old road and joining the Gorge at entrance 'A' - easy to navigate through the broken ground at the start (very good markings) and then the track is easy. A goat followed us much of the way, which sometimes felt a bit strange! Beautiful to see the changing colours... More
