Stopped at Guise on our way back to the coast. Although there is an interesting story to be told, the place seems devoid of any human element or story of the people who lived here, the emphasis is on the social experiment. I wanted to...More

This place had been recommended to us by French friends who live in a nearby town. In the UK, we are lucky enough to be familiar with two sites where wealthy industrialists took the decision to look after their workers well - George Cadbury in...More

We had a day with no plans and came here thanks to comments on Trip Advisor. It was certainly unexpected and very interesting. We were quite impressed with the history and the excellent way this was presented. We would certainly recommend this site.

Very interesting - you can easily spend 4 hours there! Lot to see and to learn, and a museum that should become a reference!

Hang around or pay 9euros for a guided cost or visit by yourself this utopia city in the heart of Guise. Have a look a the history of la familistere on Wikipedia and enjoy yourself.

This is quite amazing - a 19th century industrialist of modest origins who in his youth toured France and was horrified at the living and working conditions of the average factory worker. Accordingly, he vowed that if he was every in a position to employ...More
