Defeated in the presidential elections of 1919, "Pere la Victoire" retired from political life. Between the ocean and his rented fisherman’s house, Georges Clemenceau, a close friend of Claude Monet, fulfilled the wager to create an Impressionist garden on the dunes. The house has been preserved in the same state as it was at the time the so-called "Tigre" died. Exceptional place, fantastic views over the ocean and great visit of this humble house that has seen so many great men in history staying there.

It pains me to have to to give this title but after looking forward to our visit to the house and gardens, we were left with this opinion. The gardens, of which much was made in the publicity literature, were in the event particularly disappointing and in urgent need of attention in all respects. It seemed surprising that greater effort... More

After a walk around the Gardens, we joined the guided tour of the house. Unfortunately the tour is only in French, however we were able to pick up a few bits of the history, with our limited knowledge of the language and the English leaflet we were given on entry. Interesting that nobody must sit with their back to the... More

What a wonderful place to visit. A complete surprise, just saw the sign and followed. At the beach where he lived with the most fabulous view of the ocean. The tour is in French only so only for those who understand but the tour guide kindly let us wander through the rooms to see this lovely house. The garden laid... More

Wanted to see this as we were going to see Monet's garden at Giverney, and knew that Clemenceau had corresponded with Monet about his plans for the garden in the dunes. And, as I had both French and European history from school I knew a bit about Clemenceau and found him an interesting character. The museum and garden were easy... More

Interesting tour of the cottage, it had a lovely feel. I was disappointed in the garden, it seemed a little neglected (August visit). The views across the garden to the sea were wonderful, well worth a visit just for that. A peaceful spot.

Found this place just by chance when out for a walk. Situated right on the sea front. The house is worth a wander round with lots of explanations and pictures. Though the highlight for us was definitely the garden which was overlooking the sea, well kept and was a real joy to wander round.
