Beautiful gardens

It is lovely to wander around these beautifully laid out gardens. The Orchid house is stunning. The bats are incredible!

We usually find botanic gardens to be havens of peace and tranquility. Not so here, where it was extremely busy, with boisterous groups of unsupervised schoolchildren more interested in sharing our binoculars than the flora and fauna. The visit was rescued by the mass colony of fruit bats hanging in the magnificent trees and a very short sortie onto the... More

I'm glad the weather was good. This is a sight never to be missed on your visit to SriLanka. My wife has bad knees. The incredible part was they arranged a Buggy (golf cart) at a nominal SLR 1000/- the buggy driver spoke decent English and was extremely knowledgeable. The fact that they have a buggy is not well known.... More

Really beautiful gardens, well laid out and easy to find your way around with the aid of the guide map. Pay a visit to the shop near the exit, it has some lovely Sri Lankan souvenirs and ideas for presents.

A little outside the city so I'd recommend getting a tuk tuk here. There is an entry fee but it's cheaper if you show a student card. The gardens are very beautiful and extremely well kept. Nice layout and variety of things to see, including bats and monkeys. A relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Worth a few hours of wandering. This site is enormous, with an impressive arboretum, palm avenues, huge bamboos etc. There are also some smaller indoor plant houses - the orchid house is extremely impressive. For the nature lover there are abundant squirrels, monkeys and birds, as well as trees hosting enormous roosts of flying foxes (enormous bats).

Our Guide struggled with getting us here as the area for parking around the Gardens is also used by visitors and staff to the Hospital. Eventually got parked and took a buggy round to enable us to see as much of the Gardens as possible in the time available. Orchid House, Lake, some great trees, Spice Garden, Palm Avenues, Bamboo... A very large botanical garden, located 10-15 min from the city centre by car. Reasonably priced entrance (LKR 1000 for adults, 500 for kids) and large grounds to roam. As it was allowed to interact with the trees (read: Climb some of them), the kids really enjoyed themselves - and so did the parents.

Peradeniya is about 5km from Kandy. It is ideally located for a visit if you are planning to get the train to Hatton (Tea Gardens) from the near bye station. This 150 acre area has beautiful flower gardens and the small orchid house has an impressive collection. The gardens are well laid out with over 4000 species of plants and... More
