About
This marvellous theatre has only 99 seats shared between its boxes and stalls. It was finished in 1808, under the Napoleonic occupation, and was initiated by nine local families. In the second half of the 19th century it was decorated by Cesare Agretti and in 1892 by his son Luigi, only 15 at the time, who painted the ceiling and the vaults, the boxes and the meeting room. The interior of the theatre, considered “the smallest in the world”, is made entirely out of wood in the “Goldoniano” style and represents a rare example of its kind, offering a harmonious and well thought out use of space for scenery, for the actors and the audience. Plenty of shows take the place each year: prose, opera, classical and jazz concerts. The theatre is also available for meetings and civil weddings, and can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays, and in July (morning) and August (Morning and afternoon) everyday

The theatre is in the heart of the small town of Montecastello di Vibio. It oozes with charm. We visited the theatre with the assistance of one of the staff who described the history of the place with great feeling. This theatre seats 90 people including the boxes. It is obviously treated with much loving care by the proprietors - the seats are comfortable and the decorative elements beautifully restored. I would love to go to a show here and hope to do so one day. the guided tour costs 5 euro - money well spent.

If you are in Umbria it would be a shame to miss a visit to Monte Castello di Vibio, the home town to the smallest theatre in the world. The theatre in itself is unique and beautifully restored to its original splendour. We were shown around by a very competent and friendly guide for a modest €5 per person. Highly recommended!

The theater was beautiful and a must see. It is the smallest theater in the world. Sadly we did not get to see a play since they only about 10 during the year, but just seeing and hearing about the history is beautiful.

This tiny theatre (18th C) was in danger of being knocked down, until the townspeople campaigned to have it restored, and showed willing to pay extra taxes to preserve it.
Must visit: 5 Euros entry fee for a guided tour.

The day we visited this theatre it was not open In fact little was open in this small quaint town around lunch time Two restaurants we saw were both closed Only the bakery and the butcher were open Suggest if you wish to visit this theatre suggest you find out exactly when it will be open as it appears it does not open very often

what a beautiful little theatre, hand painted by someone really still a child with no experience. I would love to go back and see a performance there.

Well worth a visit; it was opened in 1808 and has seats for 99 including two tiers of boxes. We had a friendly guide too who spoke good English.
