We love to visit tropical Caribbean gardens and had already seen Balata. M. Babo's is very different but equally amazing. He has crafted a kaleidoscope of colour on his own over the last 18 years. The results are astonishing. It is tricky to find the gardens but well worth the drive. He was delighted to share his pride in his garden with us. He does not speak English but don't let that put you off.

Le Jardin de la Montagne chez Babo (Mountain garden by Babo) is one of the most beautiful places in Martinique. It's hidden in the beautiful mountains in height about 400 m above the sea. When you have a small car as we had, be careful, the road will be a bit difficult for you. We stopped under the Coq road and made a short walk to the garden. Nature around is simply amazing! True paradise. Monsieur Babo is very passionate about his flowers and fruits. He or his co-workers will give you a guided tour around. It's in French but we could understand some names and usages of the plants. They have many plants that we have seen before but also many that were new for us and are typical for this part of the world. You just have to visit this beautiful place, just amazing! (Fee is 5 eur.)

We saw this place during our internet searches. Far from the tourist trails, access is simple and easy to park.

Very nice place, multiple flowers, species and very relevant explanations from Owner. The valley of porcelain roses is amazing. Dominant viewpoint, go ahead, it’s great!

The drive here is a little difficult but worth it. Lots of steep narrow uphill sections but all the roads are paved. Best to use Google maps on your cell phone. This took us right here. There’s a small parking lot in front. The owner showed us around explaining all the plants (in French only). We were lucky to have a clear blue sky so the photos were fabulous. There are so many colorful plants here of all kinds. It’s not over manicured like a commercial garden but well taken care of. I would describe it as spectacular and one of the best gardens we have ever visited. Definitely worth going out of your way for. It was that good.

We found this hidden gem high on a mountaintop outside of Vauclin. A knowledgeable French speaking man led us on a tour of his property explaining to us the numerous flowers, plants, and local fauna which he has grown. He picked off flowers and seeds and explained whether they were edible. He broke off flowers and leaves to let us smell them and explained what they were used for. It was beautiful. He clearly loved the land and the plants. As Americans we only wished we spoke more French so we could get a full understanding of the tour since he only spoke French. Tour cost 5 euro per person and lasted well over an hour.

It was hard to find this botanical gardens. It is located in the mountain with no indications, until we were close to it.

The owner gave us a tour. We had great views and amazing flowers and plants.

We took our time. It was amazing that the cost was 5 Euros.

There were so many beautiful flowers, as well as plants.

Our guide brought us to his home. He showed what he eats from his gardens. That was very interesting.

He had also cacti.

By the way, the guide is very friendly.

A must see!

Located way off of the main tourist route, this large garden is well maintained and has great views. The grounds keepers are friendly and will show you around. Definitely get someone to drive you as it is very difficult to find.

We are a family with two little kids and we spent 1-2 hours in this little but beautiful garden of this friendly lady. You can combine this visit with other activities to relax a bit and enjoying the beauty of the nature.
