Interesting to visit, as you can appreciate the architechture and greatness of a fort. There is a nice museum of the fort´s history and the Bacalar region since the precolumbian and colonial... If you love history and have an interest in fortifications this is a wonderful example of military science and architecture that should not be missed. The museum has some scellent pièces and very informative text.

The fortress is a nice stop if you are on your way to Belize. The entrance is significantly cheaper for the people with mexican nationality, as if they wanted to discourage tourism :D Nobody speaks much english here, but it is worth it. It is not crowded at all and after you are done with the tour, you can continue... More

The museum inside transports you to the era of pirates, Creole and Mayas. You can see fragments of weapons used and found here in Bacalar, replicas of ships entering and leaving the Canal Pirates. The viewpoint of the first tower shows you the lagoon with its 7 colred around 12 noon, excellent moment to take a foto! This fort is... More

Very well preserved and restored Fort, build by the Spanish to protect the town from pirates.Carlos our guide told us all about the history of Bacalar and the Fort. It has a really nice exhibit, partly with replicas but nevertheless nicely done.

The place is magical. It is amazing to find a fort like this close to a first class lake in such a simple humble town.

Despite being a small Forth it has a lot of history, you can visit this place in around half an hour and learn a lot of the history of Bacalar.
