Nice Island to Visit in Pedasi
Jan. 2020 • Couples
I ordered the "tour" from Hostel Selina in Pedasi but the tour was actually just a transportation served with water and snack to the Island. Nevertheless, the Island itself was beautiful. There are two beaches in the Island but the main beach is better.

There is a small path to the other smaller beach. But do not take the "wrong" path to the beach because it is filled with spiders and thorn bushes. The wrong path leads to a rocky place where large frigate birds are nesting. The wrong path starts from the Island Center Building so keep away from the path if you do not want a Indiana Jones style scene.

The Iquanas are cool, and the beach is good for snorkeling after the tide has risen the water about after 2 pm.

Second time visiting
Jan. 2020
Last time we were there, it seems to me that there were more fish 🐠 during scuba diving. I feel like that the coral just outside the beach was gone and this is were I snorkeling 🤿 was fun with all kinds of water life. On the beach was no big blue crabs 🦀 like last time I was here. Boat ride was fine 70.00 US $ 25 minutes out and 20 back.

a nice place to spend several hours, water is nice and very clean, beach is so nice, the only problem is if you are alone or 2 people the transport is expensive you better try to find more people to share the expense.

Beautiful, quiet beach
Dec. 2019
Just a short boat ride from Pedasi but it's like another world. Beautiful turquoise water and white sand make for a very Caribbean feel. Thousands of frigate birds, tons of iguanas, hermit crabs everywhere and nice snorkeling right off the beach. Bring your own snorkel gear to snorkel, the rental gear is cheap but bad. The easiest way to get there is to go to Playa Arenal in Pedasi and you'll see the boats and the captains. We paid $70 for an all-day trip. No reservations needed.

Get a group and enjoy
Nov. 2019
Boats to the island cost max $80, return, no matter with how many persons you are. If you are few, like 4 or 5, you might negociate for a lower price..
It is possible to camp on the beach, but you can't make a reservation for a boat. So you need some luck the next day or just enough time.
There's no real hikes. Just the one to the other side of the island where you get to a nice beach. Plenty of iguanas.

Whales, Beach, Iguanas, Crabs, Clear Sea Water
Sep. 2018 • Friends
We (7 of us) made arrangements directly with the boat captains to take us to the island, whale watch on the way there and way back. The boats are open with no cabins or restrooms. We had packed a lunch and beverages, took folding chairs and beach umbrellas. We saw many whales close up. It was a wonderful sight to behold! On the island, there is one cement open air pavilion with picnic type tables. We set up our groups chairs and beach umbrellas on the beach. There are many iguanas and crabs. They leave you alone unless you offer food. Walking trails go through and around the island. The water was crystal clear and snorkeling was pleasant. There is a small museum on the island. No one may stay overnight. This is a day time park. Park Rangers monitor activities closely. No alcohol is allowed and is very strictly enforced. Our boat captain stayed the day with us, anchoring the boat close to shore. Choose a good weather day with calm seas for the most enjoyment. Bring plenty of sunscreen as there is little to no sun coverage other than the pavilion which may be full or crowded. Beach umbrellas are recommended also. We enjoyed our day.

Pristine Island
Feb. 2019 • Couples
The only thing we messed up was arriving late in the day. They stop the boat rides at 5pm and we got there around 2pm. So we negotiated $60 for the two of us. If yo group up with others they'll split the cost among the riders.

The island is stunning. Untouched and no amenities. Just bring a cooler and you'll be fine.

I'm going to let my pix speak for the island.

Very worth the effort.

Choppy waters and not much beyond frigates and a few iguanas
Feb. 2019 • Couples
This morning, after an hour long bus ride south, we took a boat to Iguana Island Wildlife Refuge off the eastern coast of the Azuero Peninsula. We arrived in Pedasi on the small beach where open motor boats were waiting. There was a pleasant breeze. We walked through the water in groups of 4 to hop into our respective boats and we were off for a very choppy 20 minute bone shattering ride to the island. Had I known how painful the ride would be I don’t think I would have gone.

After landing we took a hike across the island where we saw a crater that had a previously detonated bomb used as a preventative measure by the US during WWII. This 136 acre island is surrounded by the oldest coral reef in the Gulf of Panama but although the water was warm it was so churned up that the visibility for snorkeling was not good plus one woman got strung by a jellyfish. Other than hundreds of Magnificent Frigate Birds, Hermit Crabs and a few Centaur Iguanas there was not much to see.

When we left around 2pm the wind and chop had substantially subsided making the return much less painful. Our boat captain decided to race the lead boat so despite the calmer waters the return was quite an adventure.

Great for swimming and Birdwatching
Feb. 2019 • Friends
This small piece of paradise is home to a large colony of Magnificent Frigate Birds. The can easily be seen and heard. Cute sandy beach with many hermit crabs! There are also Iguanas as the name suggests. Snorkeling is possible right from the beach. The coral isnt great but many colorful fish. There is a nice short walking trail with some interpretive signs. Lovely place to spend a day!

Ideal Location for A Variety of Beach Actvities
Feb. 2019 • Friends
Like I said it is truly an ideal location for all sorts of beach activities. Plenty of available shade either under the palms or in the covered shelter nearby. Due to the higher surf during our visit the snorkeling was not as good as it should have been. However, plenty of room for a good beach stroll while viewing the nesting area for frigates. They are plentiful as with the Iguana's. A good location for a swim in the turquoise waters. There is a short trail that crosses the island with historic markers describing the history of this island. There is an old dismantled lighthouse structure plus several bomb craters from where the US used this island for target practice. Truly a fun stop for us.
