Marwood Hill Garden, Garden Tea Room and Plant Nursery

Welcome to this very special private garden tucked secretly away in a Devon valley.

Covering some 20 acres, with three beautiful lakes, this tranquil garden will provide a day of both inspiration and relaxation for the whole family. From the moment the first snowdrops poke their little noses through in spring there is so much to see throughout the year until the rich autumnal tints and shiny fat berries of autumn.

The magnificent display of blossom from the massed camellias and rhododendrons is followed by a stream of colour in the bog gardens, as carpets of primulas and iris in all the colours of the rainbow, burst forth. The National Collection of Astilbes follows in a foamy symphony of pastel hues and hydrangeas on the hillside, like French petticoats in sky and lilac, sparkle in the sun.

We garden with wildlife always in our minds and providing habitats for them is extremely important. Tucked away around the gardens are piles of branches and mounds of leaves home to lots of lovely bugs and beasts!

Kingfishers are regular visitors to the lake and the areas of rough grass provide both food and hibernating site for the young of many butterflies and moths. Well behaved dogs on leads welcome. Children under 12 Free.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. Had a lovely time wandering around the gardens. The Wisteria arch, magnolias look great at this time of year, but the silver Birch trees were stunning. The tea room is quaint and serve a lovely selection of cakes. The staff and volunteers are very helpful.

Developed in the past forty years by a local general Practitioner physician, this is an unexpected lively find. Start by having tea outside in their cute little tea room overlooking the trees and flowers in the valley below tells you that there was good planning for visual aspects. I would suggest a visit in late June to July when their... More

My partner and I are season ticket holders. We turned up on Sunday two weeks ago on one of the first opening days of the year. The gardens were kind of OK. Not as good as Rosemoor or Arlington Court, both within thirty or forty minutes. Season ticket holders are entitled to a 'free' pot of tea although this is... More

I visited with my mum and aunt and we spent a lovely day strolling around the gardens. Magnolias and camellias at their best at this time of year. Lunch at the tea room topped it off nicely.

These gardens are a little bit off the beaten track so a sat nav is really necessary to find them, but it is well worth the journey as they are so lovely. There were lots of beautiful magnolia and camellias in bloom when we visited, although as it is in a steep sided valley the rain of the previous night... More

We visited at the end of March. The gardens had only opened for the season a few days before. We really enjoyed our visit, but the gardens were not at their best.

Our visit today was idyllic. The Magnolias and Camellias are at their best; there are still numerous daffodils and many of the trees are coming to leaf. Blossom of every colour abounds and even on a busy Mothers' Day (when beautiful camellias were presented to women customers in the Tea Room) there was still peace and tranquility to be found... Thank you so much for kind words. Mother days was a very busy one for us and we love to spoil the Mums a little too. The garden is very special and even on a busy day you can always find a place to sit and enjoy the bird song and peace. More
