Chuxi Village with a total of five tulous (four round ones and a rectangular building), one of them a (simple) museum. These adobe buildings, the oldest one dating back to the 15th century AD, don't see many visitors. You can therefore find enough time to visit them - as well as the small village as such - without the usual... More

Wow, we visited Fujian's most beautiful Tulou in the Chuxi residential region. It was a beautiful sight and walking towards the Tulou through a small stream, walking on pieces of brick to cross the stream was a beautiful sight. The Tulou is unique as it was hugh cluster but has only 1 entrance door. Upon entering you can see many... More

The largest of this cluster has a fantastic exhibition of how the Hakka lived their lives, very informative and well worth the visit. Added bonus is that there are very few tourists here as it is too far for the crowds from Xiamen on a day trip. Maybe do this one first, it will open your eyes to what you... More

Five large circular buildings ten rectangular buildings . All structure are constructed with wood and rabbet structure. Not even a single nail is used and the earth building remains intact after 600 years.

The Chu Xi cluster is a bit further out than the other clusters, so it's a bit pricey to get to for solo travellers. I was lucky and found another person who wanted to go to share a ride with, so ask around if you want to go. This cluster was less busy than some of the others and the... More

Jiqing House is more than 600 years and it took 21 years to build it. It is now vacated to make way for tourists and a museum. It is an amazing structure. Because the Hakka had migrated from elsewhere, they sometimes become the targets of attack. There is also a "escape hatch" from the building in case enemies succeeded in... More

Very nice tulou but far from town, around 15km. You can take the path on the right to get a nice view of the cluster.

We found the Tulou cluster of the little Chuxi village to be most interesting in the Yongding area, because it has both round and square buildings, because one of them contains an interesting small museum and because you could have a perfect view of the whole cluster, from a small platform built on a hill opposite to the village. These... More

The oldest and largest building in Chuxi is a museum which is both beautiful and interesting. You can go up the stairs and get a sense of the overall architecture of a XV th century structure. Next to it is a large rectangular building still very much in use. This village can be seen from above from a look out... More

Normally it's quiet without many tourists. It's very good to take photos of this village from the viewing platform(a bird view). Jiqing House is a Hakka House museum and there are many articles used by hakka people in the museum. It's good to spend a whole morning in this village. Feel free to ask me more questions about Hakka Houses,... More
