Beautiful and impressive earthern buildings with some build hundred of years ago. Went with a tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the history, the construction and the culture and tradition of the people and family who live here. With written English materials not available, recommended to go with someone who could explain and provide more information about the place.... More

Have been to many parts of China, but this trip to Yongding Tulou country is quite an awesome and inspiring experience. That the hakka people, out of necessity and grits, could construct these buildings practically in the middle of nowhere, is truly remarkable. Heng kong, Gaobei, and especially Chuxi with its beautiful step paddy fields serving as background are wonderful... More

There are so many other tulous that it is unnecessary to visit this one. Especially before 4 pm. Avoid.

If you are not familiar or non Chinese speaking it is best to get a local guide so you can have a better understanding of the Hakka culture. Had not seen young locals around and majority of those we met were above 60s. They were quite shy so for non Chinese it is better you bring a local friend or... More

The Tulou communities of Yongding's Hakka people are a must see sight. I've been living in China for two years and have visited many places here and I think the tulou of Fujian are really special. Everyone knows when they come that they will see impressive and interesting architecture but nobody mentions the stunning scenery and the incredible warmth of... More

Amazing to see that an entire community continues to live and work in here. Most of the first floor area are converted tea shops and some of the neighbours will invite you up to the 3rd floor to take a panorama picture of the entire tulou for Y10.

These buildings are a work or man made ability that i find hard to understand. How with out cranes or modern technology did they build these structures. Some are square and some are perfectly round. Families still live in many of them and some sadly have falling into disrepair. The government has at least decided that the ones that are... More

This is a must-visit place in Fujian. The architecture of each building in this compound are unique, mostly are in circular or square shape. I only had enough time to visit those in Hongkeng Tulou cluster. Zhengcheng tulou, Fuyu tulou and Kuiju tulou are the main highlights of my visit. There are all very big and there are real people... As far as I know, the Hakka Tulous are unique and as such, worth seeing. The ones in Yongding are located in a fenced park and the largest are Zhencheng, Kuiju, Rusheng and Fuyu. They are mostly round, but also square and built to accommodate up to 300-350 people, usually related to each other. The Hakkas are a minority that came... More

It is better that you join a day trip tour in Xiamen with the trip to here - Yong Ding Hakka Tu Lou. So that it will save your time of planning for transportation, and also if you come in a tour, they engage a local guide to show you around and tell you all the historical stories of Tu... More
