Discovery Bay near Albany is a truly unique attraction.

It is home to Australia's last operating Whaling Station, a stunning Botanic Garden of Australian plants and a display offering visitors a close up experience with friendly Australian Wildlife.

You can choose to explore either our whaling history, or the gardens and wildlife, or the entire site to make a real day of it! Pack a picnic or BBQ lunch and spend a day discovering lots you didn't know about the Great Southern region.

Situated at the tip of the Flinders Peninsula, the heritage-listed "Whale World" site has undergone dramatic change since 2004. Now maximising its location, Discovery Bay is a showcase of amazing regional bio-diversity, yet still remains true to the original whaling display.

Historic Whaling Station guided tours are included with admission, while informative displays are provided to enjoy the gardens and wildlife at your own pace.

Allow at least a couple of hours to see all that is on offer. The history of the whaling station is very interesting and the old whaling ship is certainly worth an inspection. There are short 3D films to watch and many exhibits to look at as well as some wildlife and gardens.

I come from a long line of whalers and sealers. This is a great attraction of a fascinating history - and while not acceptable today it pays tribute to the tough industry which still operated in the late 70s.

We drove out from the city to visit the whaling station and were pleased we did. There are guided tours on the hour which are included in the ticket price. We would recommend taking the tour. This takes around 30 minutes then you can have as much time afterwards as you like to wander around. The guide we had was... More

We had a great time at the whaling museum. The guide was well presented and showed a considerable amount of knowledge about the place. A place well worth the visit .

If you are in Albany this is a definite must do. Going on one of the tours and the information that provided by the tour guide is excellent. It is a real eye opener, makes you feel apart of the whaling. The exhibits and 3D cinema is also excellent and my young children loved it. And the highlight was the... More

This tour highlighted the dreadful whaling industry, it was very informative and our tour guide was well informed. It must have been a dreadful place to work. There is a great deal to see it is very educational. One of the whaling boats is also on display.

At $26 ( concession ) and $29 for everyone else. It's not a cheap visit BUT you could easily spend 4 or 5 hours here. The guided tour with David was really informative and the 3D movie was different. The entry fee also includes access to the Australian wildlife park and the Botanic Gardens There is a playground for children... More
