Took a ski mobile 'taxi' to the very top of Monte Piana in the afternoon sun. Monte Piana in summer is a different place when one is able to explore the trenches dug by Italian (and on nearby Monte Piano Austrian) soldiers in WW1. In...More

Monte Piana is an historical and fascinating location to hike in the Eastern Dolomites. Site of a violent front in WWI, there is much to see at this desolate yet beautiful mountain peak.

I can't imagine there are many more perfectly preserved WW1 battlefields than Monte Piana. It's incredible and moving to walk around here - pick a good day however as the views to the mountains all around are magnificent.
