Certainly well worth the long road trip (over 5 hours from Reykjavik each way) saw seals and Eider Ducks along with a whole lot of icebergs

You get to be up close to the glaciers! They just float around heading towards the ocean. It was an amazing site. We didn't do a tour, but we felt walking around the beach was sufficient to see the sites.

We actually saw this twice, albeit second time quite briefly. We stayed in the area overnight, so visited just before we reached our hotel, and then again next morning on the way home in a blizzard. It is stunning, ghostly looking and VERY arctic looking....More

A truely magical place, and easily accessed of route 1. We spent a good hour just walking the shore watching the icebergs and seals. Small coffee shop/gift shop on site, makes for a perfect coffee pit stop

Absolutely amazing place breathtaking in every way. The icebergs flaoting in the lagoon at the base of the massive glacier before drifting out to sea, the cracking of the moving ice absolutely stunning place definitely a must see

I caught my breath coming over the ridge when I saw this from the road. Stunning. Very easy to find-right off Hwy 1. A parking area on both sides of bridge going to lagoon and beach. Easy, short walk. We saw several seals playing in...More

Such a beautiful piece of nature. The sight of floating icebergs, hearing them cracking was one of my trip highlights. Quite crowded, but nothing can harm this place magical vision. Don't forget travel to the shore.

Hello Matika and all who consider this excursion. Yes, it is definitely worth the trip, and I suggest your own car so you can stay as long or short as you wish on the way. I presume you will go in the summer season and... More

it would be about 10 hours driving total, if you don't get out and marvel at various sights along the way. a stunning drive, but very long. plus factor in time out the car doing things...I'd say it's too much for 1 day.

I did 2 weeks ago when there wasn't any snow. It was a nice drive but I wouldn't do it again. Drive out on the one day but book a hotel for the night nearby the lagoon. The Foss hotel looks really nice!
