Get a map or precise directions as the signs could be confusing at the bottom of the valley on which direction to follow to the top. Departure for the trek is from the parking near Buron de Chaudefourd, an otherwise excellent and very authentic restaurant

We had a hot and rewarding walk up the Valle de Chaudefour a National Nature Reserve, so no dogs allowed, but we did see a French couple with their dog which left its mark on the footpath very close to the LA Maison de Parc. We also saw a cat in a special rucksack which was a first for us.... More

In a mountain range featuring commercial ski resorts like Super Besse and Le Mont Dore, we were delighted to discover this unspoilt gem of nature. The valley itself and the surrounding rock formations are nonetheless stunning... More

Fabulous walks take you through this perfect u-shaped glaciated valley, dominated by the massif of the Puy de Sancy. Top tip is to have lunch at the Buron de Chaudefour near Moneaux - aim to get there at the end of a shorter... More

Popular walk but you can easily leave the masses behind. The views are stunning and a variety of well marked walks branch off the main paths.

As another contributor writes, this is the auvergne in microcosm. Despite being a busy weekend and the car park full, once out in the park there were few walkers. Magnificent scenery in a nature reserve.
