We visited the abbey whilst staying in nearby Vix. It is extremely impressive and very photogenic with the lavender gardens in the foreground. We found the site really interesting and it’s well worth a visit. We finished with a lovely lunch in the auberge opposite,...More

We visited the abbey whilst in Maillezais for the day. Combined with the Embarcadère de l’Abbaye marsh boat trip. Both are well worth the visit.

I recommend you to go for the visit at 10.30, it last around 60 minutes, and then watch the small act called Le Marin des Marais, it last around 30 minutes and finish with the 15 minutes movie. Cost for the wall visit is 7...More

The best Christmas faire by far, well worth travelling a fair distance to visit. Very authentic, fireworks, artisans, the only criticism is there is nowhere to sit down for tea or coffee after 6pm when the cafe closes.

This was an interesting visit alongside the boat trip next door. Great views from tower. Only complaint was that picnics were not permitted inside (although there is picnic space next to the carpark which is pleasant).

Well worth the €6 entrance fee. Apparently it was the monks from this abbey who started the reclamation of the surrounding marshes and cut the canals. There's a tremendous viewpoint from the top of the remaining tower which is accessed by the spiral staircase. Most...More

Amazing water lilies in the parking lot outside the entrance. Enjoyed our walk around the ruins, reading the guide book as appropriate. Amazing to learn how the abbey flourished for over 500 years thanks to canal building and pilgrims. Claimed the tower with lovely view...More
